Yep, Saturday night (28th) travelling on Megabus for the wee guy's (my great nephew, Ruan) first Birthday. I'll see Catherine as well, as she is coming in from Oxford, and we'll meet up before we go to Charing Cross for the train to New Cross. (don't let me forget to check up the times of those trains)

David G. We have already spoken about this. If anyone else is around, we don't have to be there til 2pm

Eva, she's the daughter who caused the Empty Nest Syndrome in the first place. Hoping to hear from DavidfromLondon????? or Mike????? but I'll make do with what I've got if necessary, and I'll be down again as soon I land a job and get my first wage. No job to go to yet, but I'm working on it. :p

So departure is less than a week away! I'm pleased that Catherine (our unmarried daughter living in Oxford) will join me in London at around 11 am. I just hope I can remember as much about the London Underground as I need to to get me from A - B without any major (expensive) setbacks!

Noel, I have just uploaded an appropriate Avatar for the weekend!!!! I downloaded it onto my phone last night, and as it's a map of the London Underground, I can refer to it often. Trouble is I can't actually SEE the map on my phone, and it's no better here, so I also have a huge printout of it :) It's so much more complicated than it was 30 years ago.... :p ....and so on!!!

As I recall, Annabel, every Metro station has a stack of metro maps handy to the ticket counter, and other places on the walls, plus a lovely map on the wall of the train above the windows, easily visible and in great detail. It makes it very difficult to get lost in London. And if you do get lost, it won't be for long...just call it 'a wonderful adventure' and enjoy the surprises!
You'll have a great time. ;)

Bat, I used to use the Tube every time I went home from School until 1971 when we moved north. I remember the smelly escalators, long and it seemed as though they never ended. The Adverts, all framed along the escalators, also seemingly never-ending, but above all, the smell.... Nothing quite like the London Underground!!!! :) At least we don't need to rush. Plenty of time to get to New Cross and plenty of time to get back again. We'll be fine. Just thought you might like an appropriate avatar. (No offence, Misty)

David Gardiner, I'm sorry I won't be meeting you this time, Take care of you

Chris You look after #1. You know you and I will catch up eventually, but I haven't been able to get hold of Jeeney this week  although I know she is being selfless (as usual) and incredibly sweet.

Ah, sorry Annabel...didn't know you were a Londoner once removed. When I was there, tho, the escalators were long, but not smelly...seemed quite clean, in fact. Maybe they have had a change in maintenence protocol...hope so for your sake. I do like the Avatar, and don't think you'll get lost.

Bat, I talked to my Nephew and his wife last night. Seemingly I won't need to use the underground. It's a couple of stops from Victoria on the Overground Line!!!!! Think a bunch of us may do the Eye in the morning though :) The Escalators have always been smelly... they just smelt of dirt and that....well, Underground smell!!!!!

I'll put that lovely photo of Misty back on Monday. Have fun without me tomorrow and don't do anything I wouldn't do (that leaves alot :) )

PS Photos when I get them developed next week.

Well, I haven't really got time to write anything today, but all went straightforwardly and according to plan. The worst bit was the Megabus. More detail when I have more time though. I must say I'm impressed with the London Bus Service though. When I last went on a London Bus, they were open-backs and they had conductors!!!!!
