I like the phrase "criminally underrated" - unfortunately so true of Janis' talent and work. But not by those of us around here at least!

Roady has spies everywhere! ;) Very enlightening and positive to see on another site...although being a Carly fan myself, I shouldn't be too surprised!
Marcia :)
Carly Who? ...awful lot of space devoted to Janis there! That's good.

You're funny Bat! Gee next time I'm on the Vineyard do you think I should bring one of Janis books for Carly? :D
I noticed the radio station, which actually isawesome, was pushing Carly's new album, and didn't have one of Janis' new cd's, so I sent them one!
I keeping my eye out for when they play it. Fortunately they show playlists.

That just reminded me of my first celebrity "kind of" encounter back in 1976. I was working as a volunteer on Father Robert Drinan's Congressional Campaign in Fitchburg, MA. One of the staffers had somehow acquired her home phone number on the Vineyard and called to ask if she would be willing to make an appearance on behalf of the Congressman, who was running for re-election. I got to listen on the extension. Ring, ring, ring. Someone picks up - it's James Taylor. The staffer makes his request in a rather fumbling way, he was already star-struck and he absolutely ADORED Carly Simon - had she answered the phone, he probably would have fainted dead away. JT listened, and then politely declined on Carly's behalf. Kind of anti-climactic, but I can remember how spun up all of us were just at the prospect of hearing either of their voices over the phone.

It really is a small world. One of my co-workers was a nursing student in NYC. In Jan 1974 (I think) the phone rang one semester break, and it was Carly looking for her babysitter. The girl wasn't there so my boss went to Carly's to babysit her newborn baby girl (Sally). My boss still has a copy of the 7 dollar check. She had to cash it 'cause she need the money. When Carly was leaving she said, "this is where we'll be" and handed my boss a piece of paper with a phone number and the name Yoko on it. James was there- a bit under the weather to put it nicely.
My Dad used to go to Carly's farm to get manure for his tomato plants. But those year round Vineyarders don't give too hoots about the celebs. Or so they pretend. ;)

Minneapolis' Air America station has been running an ad for a liberal festival to be held during the RNC here on Labor Day. They are using a Janis song in the ad that I ashamedly don't recognize.:o Anyway, I like it!!!

How cool, I love Carly Simon as well. I saw her in Pgh. in concert before she passed out onstage from stage fright, etc. She was great but nervous. I am glad that they share my views on how great Janis Ian is! :D
