Has anyone else played the Myst series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myst) (Myst, Riven, Exile, Revelation, Uru, Myst V)? I was playing the game when it was first released in 1993/94 (I was only 11 years old--seems so long ago) and got hooked. Of course I bought the sequals: Riven and Exile, though I couldn't play Exile on my computer 'cause it didn't have enough RAM! Years later (a week ago), I finally fired it up on the new laptop and played it straight through.

Until now, I had no idea the series had continued after Exile. Turns out there are even scifi novels that explore the history and backstory behind the actual game (the game is not necessary to enjoy the books, apparently)! I expect my order to arrive from Amazon.com and have my nose in that book ASAP.

There's even a dedicated wiki to the fictional worlds in which the series takes place:

Oh gosh, I remember Myst & Riven - the graphics were really lovely, especially after playing other "quest games" (King's Quest, Space Quest, Larry the Leisure Suit Lounge Lizard, etc....) I never finished the series, and now you have me wondering why I never did!

I also wonder why I never finished the series! I'm definitely going to check it out, though I wonder if my computer can handle it. Myst IV was released on DVD-ROM and not CDs like the others had been and it requires a couple gigs of free space (yikes! Might have to buy a new harddrive for the laptop just for the game ;) Good excuse, right?). If they had released Myst IV on multiple CDs instead of DVD-ROM, it would have taken up 21 CDs to play! Could you imagine?

I remember when we still had a 20-something set of floppy disks that installed Windows 3.11. Wonder how many floppies this game would use

Oh gosh, I remember Myst & Riven - the graphics were really lovely...<snip>We, too, only played the first two games and enjoyed them a lot. Really liked the atmospherics. Kinda lost interest in games after Riven.

I bought copies of both Myst (complete with a hint book) and Riven at a rummage sale some years ago. Made a fair amount of progress through Myst and then got too busy to finish it. Never even made a start on Riven, alas. I have a whole stack of computer games that I've bought and "never gotten around to". Perhaps I should be honest with myself and simply put them on the rummage sale as, with the exception of Flight Simulator, I doubt they will ever be played....just don't have the time.

Myst! I didn't get very far in Myst... I got off the first planet, I had finally found the red page, but I couldn't get back to the first scenery. I was playing with a friend that usually hung out with my sister, but my sister and my best friend had no patience for the game. They were only interested when Katie and I got somewhere new, and only for a short while.

I miss playing Myst... this computer doesn't like to run the video or music smoothly, even though it should be able to. I'll have to dig out the disc again sometime.
