I know that we have a writer and a singer songwriter who post on this forum regularly. But I would be interested to know what all of your talents are? Please list what they are in the order that you are most proud; proudest one first..

Rachel

As your thread header says, "hidden talent/s", so how would we know? Or at least I don't know what mine are.

I can remember and match colors, usually without needing a swatch. Friends take me along when buying paint and the like. It's kind of freaky sometimes. I'll remember that one "off-white" has a green undertone while another is more gray.

Ace, that's a gift! Just like a musician having perfect pitch, perfect color sense is in demand in some fields. My uncle Max had it, and was a heat-treater at Acme steel in Cleveland when I was a kid. He would look at the steel cooking through a thick glass peephole, and he would tell them when to pour...I don't think he was ever wrong! He did it by knowing what color the molten steel was when it was ready to be poured into the ingot molds...sort of like a cook knows when something is done by its smell, but that can be learned. I don't think perfect color sense can be learned, it just is, and therefore it is a gift. I'm sure you would be in demand in some industries.

Ah yes, cartooncharactervoices. I do a pretty good Iago and a very acceptable Jafar.
I can sing. Just an enthousiastic, mediocre amateur. But still.
I can cook. I kind of 'know' what goes with what and how much of it is tasty.
I have a good sense of taste. Usually I can taste most ingredients in food. It's not a blend of tastes for me.
I have a good sense of smell (not always a blessing, I can tell you)
I can write funny lines & storyboards for cartoons (can't draw though)
I have a feeling for languages. I learn them relatively easy.
If needed I can dance (not ballroom) Enthousiastic, mediocre amateur...
I can imitate and make charicatures out of people I know. And myself too, by the way.
I can act a little. Again, the enthousiastic, mediocre amateur.
I have an eye for composition and what shapes & colours go together. Comes in handy when I'm decorating a room or something for a party.
I am usually more technically able than I think.
I can polish shoes untill they are very shiny.

Oh, these were in no particular order...

Hidden talents, erm - I'll let you know when I find one. Or is that when someone else finds it for me.

Maybe we are too often scared to admit the 'hidden' talents we hold inside for fear of sounding egotistical to others. Therefore we sometimes suppress what we know inside and wait for another to inform us of what we already know. Either way, it's there waiting to be discovered.

It's just a shame we can't always mention what our hidden talents are, for fear of sounding too bigheaded.

Egotism only really exists in the one who is blinded. Everything else is art!

I was a philosopher in my previous life:rolleyes:

I can do some accents and characters--current favorite is Philip Seymour Hoffman as Truman Capote in "Capote".

Then there is Leon the Ripped-Off Rap Singer (decidedly politically incorrect) and "Feelgood" Jamal, M.D.--stole the latter's voice from my actual doctor. See him more than once and his delightful rendition of "hello, how are you?" will be echoing in your head forevermore. And the character anyone can do: the WWII German. "Ve haff ways of making you post...."

If my travel plans do get off the ground, I'll have to work up a suitably semi-offensive Dutch character. All the while hoping that no one takes "him" seriously.

I am not sure I have any hidden talents.. or any talent at all, actually.

The closest I can think of is my ability as a diagnostician. Not just with computers...back in my horse trainer days, I was also known for my ability to diagnose problems that no one else could get to the root of. Its really just a manifestation of the powers of observation, combined with experience and a good memory.

Aside from that, I have a pretty good ear for music and eye for art, but no talent with which to use either!

My only other talent is that of being able to injure myself fair seriously while doing the most incredibly mundane things like taking out the garbage!

Your Hidden Talent

http://images.blogthings.com/whatsyourhiddentalentquiz/flowers.jpg

You are both very knowledgeable and creative.
You tend to be full of new ideas and potential - big potential.
Ideas like yours could change the world, if you build them.
As long as you don't stop working on your dreams, you'll get there.

Going by how I post on this board sometimes, I doubt the quiz result is true for me, but it was fun to do. Thanks, Dee!

Your natural talent is interpersonal relations and dealing with people.
You communicate well and are able to bring disparate groups together.
Your calming presence helps everything go more smoothly.
People crave your praise and complements.

Your Hidden Talent

http://images.blogthings.com/whatsyourhiddentalentquiz/snow.jpg

You're super sensitive and easily able to understand situations.
You tend to solve complex problems in a flash, without needing a lot of facts.
Decision making is easy for you. You have killer intuition.
The right path is always clear, and you're a bit of a visionary.

"You have the natural talent of rocking the boat, thwarting the system.
And while this may not seem big, it can be.
It's people like you who serve as the catalysts to major cultural changes.
You're just a bit behind the scenes, so no one really notices."

This might actually be sort of accurate. I can appear to be this nice and innocent little kitty, but then you haven't heard my roar! I take great pleasure in being subversive in a subtle but distinct way. Mind you, not just for the sake of it, only when I find certain things oppressive or hostile towards diversity.

Other than that:
-I am good with power tools as well as a sewing machine
-Cats love me
-And then there's... well, if you look closely at my signature, you might figure it out, if not, don't worry, you probably don't want to know.

I think I may have a hidden talent for alienating people. That's why I keep it hidden! Seriously though (yeah, sure), I've never been one to hide my talents -- such as they are -- and have a long history of shameless self-promotion for the writing, the music, the art etc. All that is at my website, of course, which is all the SSP I'll do here and now!

I have the power to persuade and influence others.
You're the type of person who can turn a whole room around.
The potential for great leadership is there, as long as you don't abuse it.
Always remember, you have a lot more power over people than you might think!

I have a positive gift for attracting people with problems (present company excepted, mind). If there's a weirdo in the neighborhood, it's a sure bet that he or she will look me up sooner or later. Perhaps I'm just too nice to such people--I try to see their point of view when I should simply show them the door.

I have no quarrel with someone who has personal problems or an illness that he or she is doing their best to overcome. But the ones who thrive on their "issues" and sabotage anything that might improve their lives....those folks are very annoying and at times, dangerous.

Forgive my venting but I've just had a reminder of this and am a bit stressed out.

OMG you have no idea the sounds Leslie can make. First we have Buzz!! and Buzz sounds sort of like Donald Duck....at least that's what I heard behind me at the Homer concert... Then there's Ethel... yes we have our very own Ethel Merman here with us. You should've been there!
But when we get all together, I will have her perform for ya'll...
Dave get ready... I want to hear, too. I can't say bending my fingers at the knuckle ends is talent or crossing all my fingers without helping them is talent but that's my contribution: eek:
Janis, maybe you should stop reading all the news about the BIRD FLU.. :p

Margay and Agnes, I think we need to start a "Boat Rockin'" club!
We could call ourselves "The Three Oars". No?
Praminade? The Clipper Sisters? Rum Tum Riggers? Hmm...needs work.
Maybe we could join the Pirate band and stir things up a bit, like a good pot of grog? Getting better?....

Dave, I know what you mean about the whiners who won't change...I too have had a bit of experience with them, (they gravitate to us Pollyannas, I think), but I finally got fed up and told a few of them off in no uncertain terms...word must have gotten around because they don't mess with me anymore. Felt pretty good, too. Hah! I don't like to be mean, but it was good to do it with a good reason. Hah, again, I say!

Janis, how do you know that chicken is dead? It may just be sleeping, or roosting, or setting, perhaps? I want one. Have napkin, will travel. Hah!

Kath....none of us who have heard you play have the slightest doubt that your fingers move in ways the rest of us can only imagine....

Perhaps you and Leslie should team up and do some sort of Bobby McFerrin tribute act. Rest assured that "Doc Jamal" could at least attempt to sing along with Ethel Merman, should there be a demand for it. Of course, when he sings, his accent is not quite as noticeable.

Did you ever managed to hear anything by Stanley Jordan, by the way? He was the first percussive guitarist I ever heard--a jazzier sound (and with a bit more of a "showoff" quality at times) than yours and using electric guitars, but interesting in its own way. Interesting, but no competition with you (shameless fawning before a true master).

I can bake a terrific pie!

Kath, do you mean bending the 1st knuckle? I can do that with all fingers. I used to imitate my jr. high home ec. teacher, whose fingers were permanently that way. "Now, you girls 'rench' (rinse) those dishes!"

Rachel,

In my case I can't completely agree with the results, although I do recognize an inherent creative streak in myself. I blame that entirely for my unending rewriting of song lyrics. It's just unstoppable. (Or at least it won’t turn off. Believe me. I’ve tried.) LOL

Really important talent. I don't do 'false modesty' as you can see (that's what we call in in Dutch)

Dave...I don't know about teaming up with Ethel. I think I'd be too tempted to shout out...."go Ethel go you shameless hussy" LMAO....I think I'll save that for the day we all get together (whenever that is).
And yes I have checked out Stanley Jordan...he is quite amazing....I love jazz, but some artists tend to move away from a piece and never return, if you know what I mean...I drives me Insane.

Karen, yes all the fingers bend, glad to hear I'm not the only weird one, but I can't bake for the life of me....home ec. was not for me. Your home ec. teacher gave you something to remember her by....But did she teach you how to bake those delicious pies??? :p

I think my hidden talent is actually being a well rounded, happy person.

Most of the time I THINK I have failed in achieving anything of merit. Most of the time i THINK I have no special talents. Most of the time I THINK I am merely a mediocre person.

But every once so often, I stand back and take a really good look at my life and I think: Actually, I am happy, I am loved by a fair few people, I play in a band (not very good but I have fun), I have a job, I am respected.

That is not bad when you think about it.

And I think this is a talent that I hade too often. Hide it for myself.

:)

On a less serious note, I think I have a talent for making straight women gay. I have not had many relationships in my life but apart from Mrs. Cloggie, every single woman who ever fell in love with me (and dared to confess!!) identified as straight before she met me. (Is there a smug-smiley??)

So either I look so much like a bloke that they get confused, or I am simply irresistable. :D

HA!! I doubt very much that they would claim it as a talent that's for sure!!

I guess my own hidden talent would be the ability to ruin the tempo of any song being played in my vicinity if I attempt to clap along. Oh and my beautiful singing voice. HA!!!
