View Full Version : Don't read the autobiography on a train [no spoilers]

I was reading the autobiography on a tube train on the way home this evening and was so engrossed in it that I forgot to change trains and ended up five stations down the wrong line before I realised...
Yes, it is a brilliant read.
Reminds me of what happened when Agnes, Marjan and I were on our way to Eva's birthday last April... talking and laughing me missed the station to get off the train... and - believe it or not - it happened again when we went back in the evenening...
Oh yes, David, it's such a brilliant read, couldn't stop last night and read till 5 a.m. this morning... the consequence: Only 30 pages left! Can't remember that I ever read an English book this fast, when I was half through I started to forget it wasn't my language. It's a touching trip between laughter, astonishment and tears. I love it!

Now that's an endorsement!
No chance of me doing the same tho, David. For one thing we only have busses in Ottawa and for another it is usually too noisy and bumping around to read anything let alone think. No, I’ll stick to taking books to bed to read quietly and without the bumping.

I was reading it on the PATH train yesterday. Have had three people approach me and said, wow...she's still doing it and still remember her performing on SNL. Amazing what a book can do.
Janis, plan for 3 more copies to be sold!

I braved the wind and the rain this morning and left the house early! Jumped into a taxi as that sorting office had now had the packet for much too long already! The taxi driver was a decent chap and waited while I collected it and then delivered me to the nearest bus stop with a shelter (phew!) and I was glad that everything had gone according to plan.... Anyway, I couldn't stop thinking about what I might find inside and with temptation in the way, I could no longer resist tearing it open (carefully) and letting Jo and Barbra in the office see what I had got. It was a couple of minutes before they got to the signed page, and Jeeney's note. Oh what a sweetheart. Jeeney, your dream (albeit belated, but who really cares about lateness?) birthday present will not leave the house, because in the house I know it will be safe (as long as it's on my bedside table) as I do not read anything except newspapers or bellringing books on buses or trains..... and now at least I know what I will be doing at the weekend..... :)

Annabel, I have ended up with two copies. One is being read, the other one is put away on my bookshelves so that it doesn't get dog-eared - although I am always careful with my books. Not sure which one I'll take for Janis to sign when I next see her.

Well, I shall doubtless buy it again at some point, but with the precious packet safely with me, and being the only copy I have and (possibly) the only signed copy in the UK at the moment, I shall have to be extra careful with it then... I'll put a photo on the Board tomorrow of the signed page like I did last year with Darlene's signed Tee shirt, which I still have, and will wear to the next concert after I have ironed it.... :) I shall have to go through my Janis stuff soon and think about what's been signed, what needs to be signed, and exactly WHEN I'm going to get her to sign them :p Things like this need to be planned in advance :D

I'm sure she'd happily sign both copies, David. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k267/deemark/Emoticons/smile.jpg

Yes, it is a brilliant read.
I was in my car on the ferry yesterday morning reading Janis' book but fell asleep because I'm friggen sleep deprived, certainly not because of the book. I did wake up when 100 + car doors were slamming shut! As some of you know I don't look so good when I wake up.
I've bought 5 books so far: for my sister, vet, therapist, boss and myself. I don't have a signed copy, yet. I have what I call my "working copy"! My sister always tells people, "you can tell what Barb's been eating if you read a book after she's got done with it!" What can I say, I'm a messy reader. The worse was when, without thinking, I killed a moisquito on the page of a library book. It had just bit someone  I ended up buying the library a new book. Next time I see Janis I'll have her sign a new pristine copy of the book!
By the way, I finished the 2nd half of the book last night-I knew it would be good....but this is incredible. I think I'll start reading it again today.

Here's the photo I promised. Misty (the cat in my avatar) isn't allowed near this sacred book, because she has lost a canine tooth and has a habit of drooling when she purrs........ Does this mean I shall have to change my avatar too???? :)

Misty (the cat in my avatar) isn't allowed near this sacred book, because she has lost a canine tooth
so, if cats have canine teeth, do dogs have feline teeth? if so, maybe they could use this as a basis to find common ground and end the mutual hatred they have for each other, as evidenced in many Tom and Jerry episodes.
I tried to make the book last. When I first got it, I read a few pages each night before falling asleep. I thought this is going to be great, going to bed with Janis each night for the next month. However when Saturday came, I just couldn't stop reading. Finished it early Sunday morning.
I am thinking about reading it again. This time paying more attention to the timeline.
LOL I am only up to chapter five. I should be done digesting all the parts and bits around new years. :p
