View Full Version : Now I can rest in peace...
This morning I got woken up by our devilish loud doorbell, cursing because I had been far away in some weird dream, just wondering about 70.000 Euro note in my hands and I wanted to out more about it...
... but I jumped up, picked up a t-shirt and my pants, still not knowing who I was and where and which day we have, and pressed the button to open the frontdoor downstairs... what a frustration when no postman came up to bring me a package...
Well, I started my computer, had two coffees and browsed the MB for a longer while than usual because of all the pics and videos. When I eventually got down to check the mailbox I saw a package on the steps and found it was for me: IT'S JANIS' BOOK! DARLENE SENT IT TO ME!!! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH, MY FRIEND! And thanks for the nice bracelet as well! YOU MADE MY DAY, this one and some more...
Now I can rest in peace and read! ;) :) I have six days left till school starts again on Monday.

Mimi, you're in for a fantastic read :)
I can't believe one person's life could contain all this.....
You're so right, David!
I continued reading where the scans Darlene sent me stopped and I've now reached page 120 already. I think I'll take a little break now as I don't want to go forward too fast and don't want to finish too soon.
I feel that when I'll be through with the book I'll listen to Janis and her songs in different way, with new ears now that I know more of stories behind many of the songs and albums, about the peole mentioned in the credits.
It's such a fantastic, intens, personal book... and I love how it looks like! The way it's made, the binding. I'm an old book binding freak and bind books myself. The color of the Autobiography's back is one of my favorite colors.

I am so glad that you got the book...I only wish it could have waited a bit longer because I am going to have mine autographed. She is going to be giving talks pretty close to me.. about three times. So I know that I will be going somewhere soon.
Now I don't have to scan anymore now that the book is finally there!!! YEA! Sorry Mimi, it was a pleasure to help you out!

Jeeney did exactly the same for me :) but I got a card through door this morning saying I have to go and collect but to wait til tomorrow morning. This one is already signed by Janis at the Borders Launch. I wonder if I'm the first in the UK to have a signed copy. And, please, Mr Postman, please learn to KNOCK on my door as I was in and I now have to wait a whole 24 hours before I can get it..... :(
At least I know a signed copy has hit Scotland, though .... :p

Sorry Mimi that your isn't autographed but I didn't get mine till much after Borders and I kept thinking that you would get yours. Besides poverty would have kept me holed up in Tennessee at the Borders launch anyway. But have fun reading it anyway.

Darlene, I really hope that one day you will have enough money to come to Europe..... I wish I could help there, but I'm trying to save to come to America in a couple of years and if/when that happens, be prepared, because you never know who will turn up on your doorstep when Jeeney and I come down to see my friends in Kentucky :p   Hard when you don't have a job but I'm working on that one now (well, next week, I'll start as I'm busy for the next 2 days) .... It WILL happen, won't it?
So don't feel too bad about it not being signed. At least the book is there and it's the thought which counts.
Big Hugs Annabel

Well so much for collecting my packet today. I was running late, and I threw my hands up in horror at the sheer ferocity of the rain!!!!! Way too wet to collect my packet this morning and I didn't want it to get wet. I'm sure the book will be happy for one more night not quite there for me..... I shall leave half an hour earlier tomorrow, as I have to be at the Office by 9.30, and I reckon that if I leave at around 7.45 am, that should be enough time to get 2 buses to the sorting office and a third bus in to town. It will remain unopened until tomorrow evening when I can REALLY get stuck into it.... :) although that will be SSSSSOOOOOO hard to resist...
Do you think I'm being sensible????? What if it's raining again tomorrow??? The heavens usually open in August...bigtime!

well I finished the book today, and what can I say?
yes, I knew it would be good, but nothing could prepare me for the rollercoaster of emotions the book took me on. Simply inspirational, congratulations Janis and thank you once again for making me feel so proud to be a rudie!

David, I can only second every word you said. I finished tonight as well. Never read an English book this fast, didn't feel it's not my language any more. Now I passed it on to Rachel who couldn't wait to read it as well.
Thanks, Janis! Thanks, Darlene!

Mimi, you've just chosen my favourite line as your signature- so much truth in that simple sentence, truth that we only understand as we grow older I think.

I plowed through the book in three days. It was so engaging I had to go back and experience it again! Once for the suspense of the story, another for the feelings. The second time through took a little longer, but probably because I took more breaks in between readings. Any adjectives I could use sound trite. I can not yet express what this experience meant to me, I'm still processing.

I took your advice and took a taxi this morning. It was well wrapped anyway, but I had an extra plastic bag. I opened it when I was in the office this morning (in the same room as my profile pic was taken) and Jo and Barbra saw Janis's signature :) I know what I'm doing tonight. Good thing I don't have to do it outside.... The "do not disturb" sign has been bought
I think this warrants a Quarter Peal to celebrate the arrival of a signed copy in Scotland, don't you? :p
