I waited in line at an Apple Store in New York and got the new 16GB white phone. There's much I have to learn, but it's amazingly cool. The wait, though long, was quite civilized. Apparently, the folks who went to AT&T endured rude "service" and little info. The Apple store kept the line fully hydrated with Smart Water and apples.
Anyone else get a new iphone? I hope it will force me to organize my contacts, calendars, music and photos. Cool indeed!

No iPhones here. No ATT service in Vermont. End of story!

Nope, just a plain old cell phone here. I asked for a rotary cell phone, but Verizon didn't carry any.

No iPhone here. NO interest in forking over the money for the toy or the wirelesss charges. Oy.

I so wish Puppy Lover, but I don't have one... I hope you'll have a lot of fun with your toy. Please keep me (and others?) posted about all the fun things you come accross. I'll enjoy the IPhone through you. Is that okay?

I don't even have an Ipod! And I don't know why I would want one.... I'm getting too old for all of this new stuff. Deep down, I would love to have an Iphone, but my razor works just fine. And why do people text each other when they can just talk or leave a message? And you have to pay for it.... I don't love it.

I’m with you, Elliott. There is no way I’d pay for one of these gadgets or pay the outrageous fees to use one.

Number one: I think there are enough invasions of people's privacy as it is, and don't think the government won't find a way to use these for that purpose. If you think I'm crazy just think about how many ways governments pry into people's lives already using the existing technologies.

Number two: I predict a sharp jump in car accidents this week due to the same fools who would normally only be distracted by texting on their cell phones.

Haha, I hear ya, Elliott and Dee. My one and only phone is a simple Motorola cell phone. I hate texting, though I must say, when one travels as much as I try to, a phone with the map and internet capabilities of Apple's phone is quite useful.

Does it have a GPS? I would like that so I can go on treasure hunts. ;) But the phone.....what do people talk about or text about all the time? I use my cell phone for emergencies and when I travel. I use my home phone almost never! Everyday I almost get hit by some AH talking on a cell phone.

But I love puppies!!!!! :D

To other countries in Europe, texting one message is still less expensive than a short telephonecall from a mobile.

And the IPhone is just plain pretty and nifty :D

AT&T Wireless is so expensive, only reason why I did not choose to get it.
I'll stick with my cheap reliable T-Mobile phone.

Come on guys it's new and it's cool. It's just like the Personal Computer was, or am I the only one old enough to remember just how hard it was to justify a PC. If I had the money, the time and the people to interact with I surly would have one. The Internet is a nice way to communicate, it's how we all met each other for heavens sake

Have fun Puppy Lover,

Nice, GodSistah. My sister had one of those, but she kept losing data connection. T-mobile kept on denying it had any problem even though she had the problem in various locations on several pieces of hardware. She's worked as a tech for several organizations and has her own conclusion that the T-mobile data network isn't all they say it is and they're having equipment problems or not enough coverage.

It's been about four weeks since I got my new "toy" and I'm delighted with it. My base of operations is New York City, but I do a fair share of traveling within the US, and the AT&T phone reception is comparable to Verizon, which I had before. My job requires constant web access and the ability to open files with attachments. I've been able to get rid of the Blackberry, the separate phone (could never manage the BB phone) and carrying an personal music player and have them all together.
I am somewhat technophobic, yet the ease of use, the beautiful styling and all the fun add-ons have made me thrilled with this device. I'd recommend it to anyone who is interested in consolidating.
And Eva, yes, you may use it vicariously. That 's my pleasure.

I think a new charger for my rubbish NEC O2 i-phone might be cheaper... Sorry Pup.

So of course I got the new Iphone. It took three days to set up voicemail. I got all the bells and whistles.... including some kind of plastic coating that protects against nuclear blasts. My PC hates Itunes, and now the phu*kin thing is fried. It can't make or take calls, and just gives me an apple support address to contact. I bought a book at Barnes and Noble to tell me how to use the thing because it's so easy, you don't need directions. The Ipod feature was nice, but I want my old phone back. The internet feature seems like a great idea, but who has hands small enough to tap out things on the tiny little keyboard? Maybe I just got a bad phone, and I'm going back to the store tomorrow for the third time, but at this point my advice would be to just say no to an Iphone. And it's huge.... it's bigger than my wallet. Folks keep asking me if I have an Iphone in my pocket or am I just happy to see them.... This thing is so honked up I can't even turn it off....

...if you must, but I keep my music player, telephone and camera as 3 seperate items, just like I keep my scanner, printer, and fax as seperate items.

"All in One" convenience is NEVER that. If one function goes down and you need repairs, you loose it all...

Good to know that there's a nuke-proof cell phone. Not sure that you'd be able to get service after the bomb, but I suppose one can always try....

The same people who have small . . . oh never mind. :p

Dee, you so bad on so many levels.... I just glad now that everyone knows I don't have small hands. As it turns out I just got a bad phone. It has been replaced, and so has the nuke proof covering. Now I have to download firefox to get it to speak to my Iphone. Sorry for the rant earlier............. I'm happy now! :)

I was referring to feet, Mr Big Hands. I'm glad you are happy now but I bet it can't bake cookies or do the laundry can it? :p

Elliott

I don't know about the cookies.... I redid my kitchen when I moved, but I have never turned on the oven.... It's not for sitting. I wish I had some of that grandma plastic to cover it with to keep the dust away. It looks great however... all stainless steel and five, yes five, round things on top. :o

Just got a blackberry...I like it very much except it has no camera...I would love an iPhone but its out of my price range at the moment and we have no 3G service around here to adequately use it anyway. By the time they upgrade to 3G we might be able to afford the iPhone upgrade....;).

My partner and I are semi-retired and we do quite a bit of travelling for pleasure now, and I have recently bought quite a reasonably priced little toy that allows me to connect up to the Internet anywhere that there is a WiFi hot spot (which is quite a lot of places worldwide now) and also allows me to use Word and download pictures from my camera etc. while I'm on the move. It's about the size of a hardback book, has a 9" creen and uses Linux as its operating system, which works fine. It doesn't have a great deal of on-board storage (4 Gb) but as soon as you run low on space you just back up your files onto a keyring flashdrive and erase them on the Eee Pc (which is what it calls itself). Mine is a very basic model, they're making them with 20 Gb hard drives now, and you can use Windows XP on them if you want to. I love the tiny size and the word processing power. Battery life is about 2 hours with the WiFi enabled.

Depending on what you want it to do for you it could be exactly the right solution for a lot of people. Suits my needs perfectly.

Neat little toy David...a whole lot easier to carry around than my monster laptop :D. I bought a 17 inch laptop to replace my desktop and it weigh a freaking ton...I don't carry it unless I have to...

Believe it or not I've joined the geek squad and you can now call me gadget girl. I got an iPhone. I don't like that I'm so much more accessible for work issues to reach me, but the fun factors more than make up for it. The Internet at my fingertips! Able to visit the board while sitting on the couch next to Peggy while watching bike racing. Riding in the car with my dad last week I was playing at finding fast facts and checking our gps location.
Peggy says I'm like a little boy who has just discovered his you know what and wants it under his hand at all times. Come to think of it I know a lot of bigger boys who are the same. Hmmmph I think she exagerates, no really, I do put it down....sometimes.

I bought an ASUS eeePC 900, the one with the 9" screen and Linux OS and 20GB SSD, for my trip to China last August. With its built-in wifi, I was able to keep up with my clients' work requirements which are all located online (I manage websites these days).

Recently, I upgraded to the 1000H, a 10" brother of the 900. Besides the bigger screen and keyboard, the XP OS and 160GB HD put it very close to being an almost regular laptop. The only thing missing is the CD-ROM.

But of course, as with everything I buy or invest in, ASUS came out with a variation of the 1000H, called 1000HE, less than 2 weeks after I bought the 1000H. The HE has a faster processor, longer battery life, and a chiclet keyboard. I would've loved the chiclet keyboard on my 1000H - at least it would mean the food crumbs won't fall between the keys into the innards of the machine!
