I found a couple of auctions on ebay for this cd.
The label is "beat goes on" and the release date is September 11, 2001

Does anyone know if this is legit? This is one of the few cds that I don't have and it is selling in Janis's store for $35.

I dont know about that version you are talking about, Coffeegyrl. But I have a version of Present Company I bought "cheap" in another store than.......and I have a version I bought here at Janis-Store. There is a huge diffrence, both in sound and cover.....If you like this record like I do dont hesitate to buy it "At-Janisīs Place", Janis doesnt sell what she doesnt like.....she is a perfectionist you know.....and that is good for ones ears....all the time.

PS I keep the cheaper version to remind that one gets what one pays for:o yachh

PPS I love the song Weary Lady from Present Company.

I have a copy of "Present Company", purchased right here at the Janis Store, and that is indeed the label. Is it still available here? Anyway, the version you saw on eBay is indeed an official release.

Lovely album, by the way....it's quite different from anything else Janis has done and is a marvelous transition between the Verve/Folkways era and the voice that was about to emerge on "Between The Lines".

My two are:

Copyright in 1992 BGO records, division of Capitol rec.

Copyright 1994 One Way Records, division of Capitol rec.

.....how many are there around:confused:

.....anyways I totally agree with DaveM "Lovely album, by the way....it's quite different from anything else Janis has done and is a marvelous transition between the Verve/Folkways era and the voice that was about to emerge on "Between The Lines"."

I missed this thread! I'm just listening to "Present Company" for the first time right now. One of the beautiful & thoughtful rudies on the message board gave it to me a while ago and I'm just getting around to it. Janis' voice is pure heaven-not a grown-up yet but with the begginings of maturity. I've got gooose bumps.

I just listened to "Alabama"! I can't believe it!

These are both factory "legit" releases as far as I know. Glad to hear that people like this album. It is very dear to me. And Gisli - I too LOVE "Weary Lady."
