Last time I flew there were not all these rules! I'm trying to figure out medications. I get my prescriptions in a 90 day supply, so do I have to bring those big bottles? Does it really mean I can't have a few in my purse because they won't be labeled? What if my luggage is lost? Also seems like I can't take a couple of Tylenol, as I've got to have an unopened bottle.

Anything else I need to know besides how many hours it will take me to drive to St Louis?

Thanks Mary. I really did read a website with all the requirements I listed! But on one of the links you gave I found
We recommend, but do not require, that your medications be labeled to assist with the screening process.
I printed a copy of that page. And I've talked with several people at work who all put several pills in a bottle with no problem. Worse that can happen is I don't get on the plane!

I sometimes also carry a 'medication passport'. I forgot the name of that place where one gets prescribed medication. Anyway... I ask them to make a print for me with their logo etc. on it. All the medication I take is listed on it. What it is for and what is in it. If I need to go to hospital or if I need to buy medication abroad they can see straight away what I need. And at check in I can prove the medication I have with me is not pretty extascypills but medication that I need. However, it doesn't mean I can take more medication in my handluggage as what I need for the trip. I am also going to take a medical declaration with me when I travel with my CPAP. The last time to and from England my bag got searched and that took a long time.

I take several prescription meds and keep them in my carry-on bag. Never have had the slightest problem with security. It could depend on their mood on a particular day but thus far, it's never been an issue.

i have never had a problem carrying meds in my carryon either, but i haven;t traveled in a bit and i do tend to carry all of my meds, just in case...cause one time i went to florida and i thought i would be there for 3 weeks ended up being 5 weeks. i'll leave out a lot of things, including some clothing, but i will not go without my meds.

Ohhh man to think there was that time in ones life when one just asked:

1) Who will bring the booze????

2) Who will bring the beer????

and....

3) Do they have condoms over there?????:o

Gisli, the main thing I wonder about is that they let you pass at all!

The main thing about airport security is not to speak unless spoken to. Those folks running the machines are overworked, bored, and really just interested in finishing their shifts and getting home for the day. Run your bag and your shoes through and if no one says anything....there's no need for you to say anything either.

Start waving a baggie and saying "hey, do you have to check on my medications" will probably get somebody to not only look at the meds, but at everything else you've got, and chances are....they'll find something wrong enough to at the very least delay you quite a bit.

It's actually a fairly good rule of thumb when dealing with anyone wearing a uniform. When in doubt, don't say anything.

I've noticed that if I let them "catch" my belt buckle at the metal detector, everyone looks at that while I sheepishly take it off and let them run it through x-ray. Meanwhile, about half a dozen bags go through without anyone taking a glance at them.

Feeling safer yet?

Well Gisli, condoms weren't on my list. :o I got in the wrong line several times before I even got to security in Boston. The Boston inspection was the worse. You couldn't understand what the drill Sargent lady was yelling and it all seemed rather disorderly to me. That's pretty unsanitary walking on those floors in my stockings and I suspect people had bare feet. I had to be told to put my blazer in the container. I thought I had to go stand where they go over you with the wand but it wasn't me they wanted. Everyone seemed to have an attitude in Boston. St. Louis on the return trip was just fine. Even at 5 am all were pleasant, courteous and helpful. And no one looked at my meds so I was able to take my tranquilizers.

The airport in Boston sure could use some renovating. They didn't even have self flush toilets. You had to flush it with your foot.
