Some 30 year ago, I bought my first Janis Ian album "Stars" in Holland.

Not long after that, I managed to see Janis live in 'De Vereeniging" in Nijmegen, Holland. I never forgot that experience and have been a Janis fan all of my live.

I'm living in Thailand now and some 14 days ago, I discovered the Janis Ian website, ordered two DVD's that arrived today.

Watching it, was a miracle.

Janis, when will you come to Thailand?

Gert.

Hi Gert

Welcome to the board!

Janis came to Singapore in February 2005 for a show. Fans from all over Asia, including Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia (that was me), and even Burma, flew in to see her as it was her first time in our part of the world, and seemed to be the only time she'd be this near for us to see her.

For the Singapore show, she'd been on her way to New Zealand and Australia. So in future, if her tour takes her to those two countries again, there is a possibility she might come to Singapore again, or even Hong Kong, as her new CD Folk is the New Black has a distributor in Hong Kong.

It isn't that far from Thailand to Singapore if she does have a show there again. And hey, we can make plans to meet up.

Hi Chet,

Wow, I wish I knew that then, I would have certainly flown to Singapore to see her. I really do hope that Janis will visit our region once again and yes it would be great to meet you at that occasion.

By the way, where do you originate from? I don't think any native Asian's know Janis that well.

Gert.

Gert

I'm in Kuala Lumpur, Maloaysia.

I first heard Janis in the mid 80s, it was the album Between the Lines (a cassette that I got her to sign after the Singapore show). Then I sort of put her aside for the next almost 20 years before rediscovering her in 2004.

I have a weblog in which I wrote about having a wish list that included being able to afford a Janis Ian Living Room Concert. The concert promoter for her Singapore show left a comment on my blog to tell me about the show, and that's how I knew about it.

I was in England last month to attend the UK Living Room Concert as well as the Brighton concert the following evening. I plan to see her in person at least once a year from now on. :)

P/S Since rediscovering Janis in 2004, I have more or less brought myself up to speed on her career all these years.

Isn't it great Gert, how Janis has so many fans all over the globe? Not really surprising tho. Music as they say is a Universal language, and no one can touch my heart and soul the way Janis Ian's music does.

Hi Gert,
I can't remember that there were more concerts in De Vereeniging at that time so it must the one that I saw Janis performing live for the first time as well :) Who knows, we might have been sitting next to each other then, LOL

Welcome!!!!
On a whim, my teenage daughter and I saw Janis a little over a year ago here in Maine, USA. I told her how much I loved her music many years ago so she told me to go and asked if she could come with me. She loved her and I rediscovered her. And I've been here ever since, meeting some awesome, awesome people, here on the board and at another recent concert!
Please stick around!

That is so cool. My wife and I were visiting a friend in Singapore just 2 months before. That would have been so much fun to see her perform there!

Now that I think about it, it's interesting that the first time I saw Janis Ian in person was not in her own country, but closer to mine. That really shows the international (no, make that universal) appeal of this little bundle of songwriting, singing and guitar-playing talent.

Probably not those where there are more important concerns than TV or music. Such countries still exist, you know.
