From today's edition of The Star, a Malaysian English daily:

KUALA LUMPUR: She is one cool dame. In her years of sailing, 29-year-old Dame Ellen MacArthur has found herself in many sticky situations.

One was when her boat came within a few feet of crashing into an iceberg.

Another was when she found herself in 50-knot winds.

“Those were very scary moments and there were plenty of others,” said MacArthur, who was already sailing when she was four years old.

And from the New Straits Times, another Malaysian English daily:

KUALA LUMPUR: The Monsoon Cup has to become a major sporting event in the world with the participation of Dame Ellen MacArthur and other renowned sailors.

This is the wish of Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who said organising the annual sailing event in Terengganu was a step in the right direction towards bigger international events.

The Prime Minister, who officially launched the Monsoon Cup to be held at the Heritage Bay Club, off Pulau Duyung, Terengganu, from Nov 29 to Dec 3, described last year’s inaugural event as a tremendous success.

Thanks for the great articles, Chet! I just love reading anything about the little Dame...she is truly a hero of sailing, and she has done more than most anyone else singlehandedly for the promotion of the sport. Someday I hope to be able to meet her and tell her so! It looks like the PM was enjoying his meeting with her, too...I have an idea she can be a lady, but can also be rather salty, too. I suppose she was on her good behavior that day! LOL
Thanks again.
I've been doing not much besides reading a few e-mails, since M picked this week to come down with a lousy bout of stomach flu and it really has laid her low...4 days of the trots is not fun, and she is getting hungry. She has been complaining of gaining weight and was just starting back on her exercise routine to try to take off a few pounds...she has done that without trying the past few days, and it really is a heck of a way to do it! ..I don't recommend it.
So, that is why I didn't see your post until tonight...thanks for being patient and bumping it up so I didn't miss it...would have hated that!
:D

Hee hee...yeah, I know, but it's been an intensely gut-wrenching week. For both of us, actually; I hate to see her so sick and miserable, makes me feel bad, too. At least I'm healthy, so far, and can make her boullion and grated apples. ugh.
