I was intrigued to see that the Holmfirth Events website - Janis will be there shortly - describes her music as orchestral/classical.

Well, I guess those attending the Holmfirth concert will be in for a treat.

The other day I learnt about the word chanticleer, which I gather means orchestra of voices. I suppose that Janis could be described as that - she has so many voices. Chet, I haven't forgotten your request - it will be with you as soon as I've worked out how to do it.

I have long though of the artist herself as orchestral and classical. So many of her compositions throught the years (when using musicians on a grander scale) have elements of this. I think of the arrangements of songs like "Applause, Applause", "Snowbird", "Mistaken Identity".... Each song has movements and themes within. Surely she had a hand in all these arrangements. My best Janis Ian fantasy would be for an unlimited budget album, where she chooses musicians, vocalists, instruments, etc and she directs and produces the show. (Okay, so she let's me choose at least one song...)! And then there is her piano playing. Always varied and beautiful, with such diverse arrangements. I often wonder if with her limited range of motion since the hand injury if she has ever considered scoring piano as she "hears it" and then would get another musician to play it if she is limited. I cannot help but miss this "other half" of a Janis show. I used to love how she would go back and forth from piano to guitar. Life is not fair, that is for sure. Don't get me wrong... I am amazed by the way the woman has mastered the guitar, and I love that equally. But I truly feel that each and every musical instrument lives in that girl's mind and body and I would love to hear what she evokes through each one. But I digress.....

Still, it will be interesting if the usual symphony crowd shows up for the concert.

Janis, you may have to go formal that night.

Classical? Not exactly, although the training does show through.
Classic? Oh, yeah!

And Dougster, would your choice still be "Weary Lady"?
