Ok, today on my way home from work sitting in the ridepool van listening to the radio they played Proud Mary by CCR.
It got me thinking .... I'm going to be self indulgent and make myself a mix CD of songs with Mary or Mary Jane in the lyrics or title.

So, put on your thinkin' caps peoples.... I need your suggestions
Here's what I thought of off the top of my head on the ride home.

Mary’s Eyes – Janis Ian
Along Comes Mary – The Association
Proud Mary – Creedence Clearwater Revival or Ike & Tina Turner
Mary, Mary – The Monkees
The Wind Crys Mary – Jimmy Hendrix
Cross-Eyed Mary – Jethro Tull
Mary Had a Little Lamb – Stevie Ray Vaughan
Mary – The Scissor Sisters

Last Dance With Mary Jane – Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
Mary Jane – Del Shannon
Mary Jane – Rick James
Mary Jane -- Alanis Morisette
Mary Jane – The Mannish Boys
Mary Jane – Tom Webb
Mary Jane, Mary Jane – The Spin Doctors
Who’s the New Mary Jane – Lennon/McCartney
Mary Jane – Megadeth

And I haven't even thought of religious/Christmas songs yet either, or gone back in the decades.

My only exceptions will be No Rap/Hip Hop songs please (oh and no Mary Lou's or Mary Anne's, etc., either) Just Mary or Mary Jane.
So there you go... I welcome all suggestions.

Ooooh....that reminds me: the Monkees recorded a bunch of great earworm songs. "Daydream Believer" is a favorite, with "Last Train To Clarksville" not far behind.

Art Garfunkel's Mary Was An Only Child. I've always loved that song.

And what about the sad tale of Mary Hamilton (written in the 1560s, but it can still bring tears to my eyes). There's a beautiful version by Joan Baez but I couldn't find it on YouTube, so I digitised it and uploaded to my own server:

Mary, Mary, quite contrary,
How does your garden grow?
With silver bells, and cockle shells,
And pretty maids all in a row.

Okay, it's an English Nursery Rhyme and not a song . . . unless you sing it. :p

No Maria either?
In the songs from West Side Story or the Sound Of Music there is always a Maria...

Ave Maria
