Have you done anything slighty quirky to get attention for Janis and her shows/music?

Just thought I would ask as I had fun yesterday. I walked past the Apple store in Birmingham's Bullring and Mrs. Cloggie and I went in. Just because I can, I brought up janisian.com on all the computer screens that were on display and set it as homepage.

Just because I can!!

(Of course many peopel walked past and opened some other useless website, but for a moment or two, it looked quite neat. SHould have taken a picture really......)

Did the same thing in the computer rooms at university a while ago. Very funny to watch the look on people's faces :D Some actually surfed the site!

Hmmm.....technically, I have the ability to reset the home page of just about any college owned computer on our network.. without leaving my desk...

...now if Janis would only come to Vermont...

Just do it Amy. Just for fun :) If you lose your job, there is one vacant where I work but you would have to move to the UK....

There is an area on your check where you can put a saying, etc. I now have www.janisian.com on my checks.

Can you request for your checks to be printed with a background of your choice? For example, the Rude Girl logo. I know there are companies that offer a chocie of images, but what if you send them an image to print on your checks for you? That would be so cool. We don't have it here in Malaysia at all. :(

When I worked in a coffeehouse in Pennsylvania, I was there long enough for the owner to trust me to choose the music. I had several of Janis' cds in the mix over the year or so that I was in charge of what our customers heard. Quite a few people came up and asked what that beautiful music was. I made sure to write down the website for them :D

Is this considered, "Janis evangelism"? ;)

Gee, I wish I'd thought of adding that to my checks....I just ordered a bunch from www.bradfordexchangechecks.com (roughly 1/4 the price my bank charges). I did get tie-dyed checks, though.

Gee, Chet, maybe you could start a custom check-printing business in Malaysia!

It's not allowed here, otherwise, it would've been available ages ago.

Real honestly, we're having a horrible time making sales in the US - for the first time in my life, European sales are way way past US sales. So any suggestions are welcome!
We're having an impossible time getting national press, NPR won't have me on any of the bigger shows because I'm old news, etc etc.
If I sound discouraged, I am! but given how much of the BBC coverage we got in the UK was really due to UK fans bothering the stations, I'm hoping that in the US it will apply as well.
Thanks in advance, all!!

This just will NOT do!
What can we do to get FITNB some needed media exposure?

I'd love to see Janis on CNN--where they repeat a segment over and over.
Here is a contact link.

I think it is important to include her success in Europe --this site--and her LEGACY!!!!!!!!!

With another round of US tour dates starting from the 18th, it's time to email your local radio station to tell them about Janis and request (no, insist) that they interview her!

Janis, that's awful! :(
US Rudies, please get nagging!! Maybe it helps to post a few mail addresses on the board, so we can all put in our two cents.

Wearing them down until they submit was my only bothering tactic!

Rudies, we must DO something!!

If anyone has any email addresses of suitable radio/tv shows in the States, especially on Janis's tour route, do let us know.

This is one of he best albums of Janis's career- it has to be heard.

Despite not being a US citizen, I sent an e-mail to CNN. Wonder what they'll do with that.

Janice,
I wore your shirt down to Dupont Circle in DC. When people asked me about it, I told them to check out your web site. I'll call some of the DC stations. More play equals more pay. They should be playing Danger, Danger everyday.... Sue:)

Please note that Janis Ian will be in Chicago on Thursday, May 18th playing at the Beverly Center.

Folk Is The New Black (True North Records)
Her first all-original album in 25 years, and a benchmark effort in a career in song that spans more than 40 years, veteran American folk-pop singer-songwriter Janis Ian's Folk Is The New Black is a bona fide jaw-dropper, a stunning achievement that embraces the zeitgeist of the age, rocks at an assured pace, oozes with satiric wit, edgy humour and barely concealed rage, flaunts her disgust of the new republic, of human greed and cruelty with intellectual muscle and a burning imagination, and wrenches the heart. With just bass, drums and a couple of acoustic guitars, Ian has constructed — apparently in a three-day session and live of the studio floor — a rich and complex musical experience, 15 songs whose lucidity and melodic potency define a composer at the peak of her abilities, all rendered in a sweet, quiet voice that urges the listener ever nearer. Both intensely personal and robustly inclusive, Ian's new songs are among the very best she has written — indeed, among the finest in the entire American folk songbook. Greg Quill, Toronto Star March 23, 2006

All in all, this is a very strong collection that far exceeded my expectations, challenging my preconceptions about ‘mature’ female folkies. Once again, confronting prejudice --be they social or musical--is a calling Janis Ian continues to answer. -- Americana-UK

Janis just returned from a very successful UK and European tour where she was widely interviewed by the BBC.

A recent quote from Janis on her website www.janisian.com

about the concert tonight (5/18) at the Beverly Arts Center (Chicago) in the Events category. I'm so excited that I haven't been able to do much today but think about this concert and I just wanted to tell people.

The only people I influence are my friends. Janis Ian has two devoted fans in my school (Hope and I), a few who have at least heard her music, the teachers mostly know who she is and know that she is still making music, but that's about it. Tell me who I should bug, and I'll bug! Aren't kids supposed to have some sort of influence since we're supposed to know "what's in style"? We'll see what we can do... I have a feeling posters around the school aren't going to do it.

I found all kind of radio station lists (some are not affordable :( ) but this looks usefull? http://www.gumbopages.com/other-radio.html -Non-Commercial Radio Stations around North America and the World .
I figured that it takes less than 1 minute to email ( most of the links have emails in CONTACT US section) the station. I guess each of us can compile the letter and send a bunch of those to different stations in less than an hour, starting with our own states..
What do you think, guys?I have already started ...

Thanks for that list, Lily.

Just sent mail to the top 2 university stations in Ottawa and Toronto.
