I am planning on going to a few shows in the Netherlands this October, following my wonderful experience in the hands of the Dutch rudies the other week....

that's great Eva
do you know which venues have tickets on sale already? Then I can get phoning.....:)
Hey David (and others planning to come to the Netherlands in October)
Rotterdam - Oude Luxor theater doesn't have tickets on sale yet. I will keep you posted on that one
Zoetermeer - Stadstheater has tickets on pre-sale. It is possible to order through internet, but it looks quite complicated to me. But hey, I'm not good with these things anyway (I prefer an honest leather whip) Maybe one of the other Dutch Rudies understands this better. Anyway, you can call the theater: +3179 342 75 65 on Monday - Friday from 12.00 - 18.00 hours. Saturdays 12.00 - 17.00 hours.
Amsterdam - Meervaart has tickets on pre-sale I THINK. My sweet ancient little Mac gives me 'script errors' and pages take ages to load. However, I think I managed to reserve a ticket. The listing and the 'shoppingcard' is there. I understood that the actual sale starts after August 28, but you can already reserve tickets. I just reserved one on the first row in the middle... *grin* Hopefully that is possible. Their telephonenumber is: +3120 410 77 77 Monday - Friday 10.00 - 16.00 hours. Saturdays 11.00 - 16.00 hours.

Looking forward to seeing you again, David! :D

Me and the other half may be interested depending on work.
Lynda and I are definitely up for a week in Holland, especially as Janis said on the radio yesterday that she will not be touring for another 3-4 years. We would be interested in:
Rotterdam Oct 9th, Zoetermeer Oct 11th, Amsterdam Oct 13th and possibly Den Haag Oct 15th.
Can the Dutch Rudies recommend a hotel which is central to these locations? We could have a reunion of the UK LRC Rudies :D

I think there's another two here for Amsterdam! I wanted to do Rotterdam too, but I'm not sure about a whole week away (we will have just returned from our Silver Wedding holiday).
Anne
;)
ps, I mentioned to Yan and Greg last night that there was a Rudie Bus heading to The Netherlands... I think they think, no, they know we're all mad.
I have recommended this hotel to Gisli before. It is not directly in the vicinity of the Meervaart but it is not far with public transport. It is a lovely quiet hotel with a great view on the canals. It is located in the citycentre (close to the Anne Frank house) and the rates for bed & breakfast are absolutely reasonable. It is a good hotel for non-smokers and people who prefer to smoke outside (like me: I smoke, but don't want the smell in the house), while the owner keeps a strict non-smoking (and no-noise!) policy. The hotel is called Van Onna. You can find a link to their website through www.eurocheapo.com. Select Amsterdam as the city you are looking for and then the Jordaan area.

I just reserved a ticket for Amsterdam, Den Haag & Zoetermeer. Rotterdam has to wait a bit untill it's possible to order. I am checking the site every day & will let you know as soon as I see the orderform for Janis is up.

I think I am interested too. Just have to get my head around it with work etc. since I have hols planned for November. Where would be best to fly into or what are you planning?
Can any of the Dutch Rudies tell us if the tickets for the venues you have already booked are numbered? It would be great if they are not then we could each get our own. However, if they are numbered it would be nice to sit in a group.
I am going to look at a map to see the logistics of staying in Amsterdam and travelling to the other venues from there. Can anyone give us an idea of which concerts would be most suitable?

The Jordaan district is wonderful, it's where we were on the Friday evening and Saturday (my friend lives there). It's like the Amsterdam "Notting Hill" area, not too far out of the tourist traps, but just far enough. We'll definitely be staying there.

I think this next photo should be in Dar's "May" thread....

I think that the most of us Dutch Rudies are going to Rotterdam, Amsterdam and den Haag. And if you order tickets you will get numbered ones.
Speaking of shows, unfortunately not Janis, but probably quite interesting and unique, too...has anyone ever heard of or seen a dance group called "Pilobolus"? They seem to be quite popular in the Netherlands!
I'm including their tour page...you can get to their main stuff from there, and it sounds like something I'd very much like to see.

Rotterdam- ok we need to wait for those
Amsterdam- tried to reserve a ticket on the English page of their website a few days ago but it didn't seem to work. I'll be getting tickets for a few other UK rudies too so will phone them when their box office is open tomorrow.

I am toying with the idea of going in October. Any other U.S. folks? Gosh, I have never been there and I cannot think of a better way to spend time than seeing Janis.

I've just heard from my friend in Amsterdam that they have their city marathon on the Sunday following Janis' show on Friday 13th. If you're planning to stay in Amsterdam, it's probably best to get your hotel booked early.
Anne
How about you all book the same hotel?
I wish I could give you all housing, but I'm afraid I don't have enough matrasses... :(

Go for it, Doug! You won't regret it.
If you don't already have an international passport, now's the time to apply for one.
I can't wait till next year, so I've been looking at her tour schedule and wondering if I have the money for another Janis Ian trip this year.
Janis is quite addictive, isn't she Chet? Luckily she doesn't make us fat!
Eva
Compared to the rest of you, she's a very expensive addiction for me. But worth it.

That is a good idea Dougster.......why not move or do another Rudie Picnic in Amsterdam? If Janis is taking a time off for 3-4 years this may be a good time.
Rudie Picnic in Amsterdam...........hmmm the idea has a nice ring to it, doesn´t it?????????
