My cell phone contract would have been up in June, so I went to the phone company’s kiosk at the mall this morning. Now I have a new cell phone and a new contract. It should take me about a year to figure out how to use all the gadgets on it. I've never felt intimidated by a phone before, so this will be an adventure.
I just wanted a simple cell phone. I must be getting old.
Nokia 6085 phone (http://www.nokia.ca/A4488099)
Nokia and goodlooking design... I don't know... But I actually like the way this one looks. Dee, I think I will have to be direct with you: simple cell phones don't exist anymore. Those days are over. I think the cheaper Nokia's are as simple as they get. So in that light, you made a good choice.
And about the gadgets: if it's too hard, don't use it. Anything you do over the net costs a lot of money. And so does downloading stuff. So if you want to keep it simple: don't use it. Use your phone, SMS and camera and that's more than enough in my opinion.
A lot of things are, by the way, more simple than they look. In a way all the possibilities are kind of built up in a mapstructure, just like with your windows computer. And in the beginning it looks way more complicated than it is because you haven't figured out the structure yet. That's all.
Just play with it. And if you are not sure if you are doing it 'right' than go back to your startingpoint (like your 'homepage') and try again. You can do it! I am certain of it. Good luck and have fun discovering things.

Wouldn't it be nice if it was easier to get a cell phone that did nothing but make phone calls? :p
No fancy this, that, the other, or anything else,..... just makes phone calls. Open the thing up, turn it on, punch in the numbers, make the call, turn it off and close it up. A simple on/off button and a simple number keypad. What could be simpler?
It would be heaven for me, Paularoid.
And you're right Eva, I don't have to venture into uncharted waters if I don't want to. I just downloaded the software to manage music and video and picture files, tho it took me nearly an hour to connect the USB cable so that it works.
Normally with computer stuff I am quite intuitive and that's how I learn. But with this phone (and yes, I like the look of it too), I feel as nervous as a . . . well, something very nervous. I would make a video of just how nervous I am, but I don't know how to yet. :o
I know I can always take it back to where I bought it and the staff there would be very helpful, but I'll try to figure things out on my own first.

I like simple phones too, but I do love the calendar, travel alarm clock, and GPS services. My old corporate cell had full blown Windows, and I must admit I got used to the ease in netsurfing and checking email. But at the end of the day I just want a durable, small, lightweight phone that doesn't drop calls and is louder than a whisper.

I'm all for the simple, too... I have an old Motorola V170 just a basic phone and text.... no camera, no internet, nothing else!
I basically got it for emergency purposes, I hardly ever use it, just once in a while.
Surfing the Net on a cell phone is just plain silly to me. As is watching a movie in a teenie weenie window held in your hand.
I found an interactive tutorial for my phone. Hopefully that will help.
:p

I agree completely.

I actually have the option of going online disabled on my account. As overpriced services go, I think that's simply outrageous.

I agree. But my company was paying for everything, and If I didn't check emails every few hours I could have had problems. It all depends on what you NEED in a phone. I now have a company wireless laptop, so I'm back to a very simple phone.:)
