Yeah... Don't hear from me much.

Sorry.

My personal computer died, so I'm on my school one.

Janis is touring in my part of the country and where am I? Canada. Studying for midterms.

Have a great time everyone that's going to her concerts!

Hopefully I'll see you in Pittsburgh. At the picnic. I'm still working out the logistics of my summer, but if I'm there it'll be because I found a way, if not, oh dear.

Miss you all. I don't care about any of you any less, I just seem to get on less.

Sorry I've missed so many grand events.

I completely miss my lil dragon pal. I do hope to finally meet you at the Picnic, but if it doesn't happen I'm 100% sure we'll meet eventually.

In the meantime, you take care of yourself!

School is so stressful, I don't see how people can gain weight here (where's that Freshman fifteen, may I ask?) as I'm losing it. Lol. Not as bad as some of my friends. One friend I have from class had to start going to every meal twice because she was getting in the dangerous range. Living on a hill is insane...

I miss you guys so much! Thank you all! I'm not really insane, yet... Just headed there.

I'll work hard (and hopefully pass), and then I can come brag to you all about how well I'm doing. Does that sound fair?

:D

Picnic, lovely picnic. And Puerto Rico with my family. This is going to be a fun, but ever so fast-paced, summer.

Enjoy the picnic, Song. We'll all look forward to things when Janis comes back to Europe in 2009. It'll be worth the wait.

Good to hear from you Song. We miss you. Sounds like you are very busy. But you have some great things to look forward to at the end of this school year. I am hoping to get to the picnic. I would love to go to Puerto Rico someday. Stay in touch.

Uh....Gisli, that would be "So like Canada's a good place, eh?"

Chances are that won't translate but no doubt our Canadian contingent will have something to say on the subject.

Was it not in Canada that Janis and Pat were married?

And if that doesn't answer you question Gisli, check these out:

Absolutely! In so many respects, Canada is lightyears ahead of the U.S. I'll bet they don't have a ban on travelers with HIV either.

I think you are great, Gisli, and you won't get any argument from me about the state of "disrepair" America is in. Nor will you hear me say that Canada isn't a really good place to live. Yet, there is absolutely nothing wrong about her missing America, who at it's core still has a lot of really good people. Janis lives here, and has brought a lot of interesting people around the globe to her site. Ease off us, and give us a few more years, and hopefully just one more "benefit of the doubt", and I think we'll surprise you.:)

And you would win that bet, Dave!

We're just not that back-assward (or that bigoted and irrational). :p

I love Canada, but I miss my HOME, too. All my family is there. Not to mention my favorite singer, also. She said in an interview if she could have gotten married in the States she would have (I'm sure I didn't quote that exactly right, so forgive me).

And even in Canada there are good people and bad people. That doesn't change. I know some really pigheaded Canadians and some awfully sweet Americans. With most of my friends we can joke around about the U.S. vs. Canada, but so many Canadians, especially young, prideful, foolish ones, like the ones you find at college now and again, take it so personally that people who have never been think of Canada and the America as the same that they pick fights with me over it, telling me how awful America is.

If America is so awful, don't come, but you're missing out. It may be messed up, but it is also an amazing place. I'm tired of being caught up in political debates and accusations where I'm asked to defend my country just because I'm the American. People say the U.S. has a closed mind. And we do, sometimes. And I even admit I can be extremely naive. But others have a very closed mind about America, too.

So it is still easy for me to want to go home, to America, especially around hollidays, especially under stress, and especially when the entire college clears out for long weekends, except for those of us too far from home to get there.

Also the title was taken from a song by Harry Chapin, not really meant to start a debate... Or more of an America-bashing contest.

I don't think there are 'better' or 'worse' countries. Home is where the heart is. And your heart is obviously in the place where you grew up. As is mine. Although it is a different place than where yours is. I think every country has it's good and bad people. Every country has it's stupid and excellent laws. Every country has it's ugly and beautiful places. I can so understand that you miss your home. Which is, in your case, in the US. Don't fight over it sweetheart. There is nothing to defend. There is nothing to fight over. And guys... give the Dragon a break, please.

Take care, Song.

Eva is right on the money! I'll like what Janis wrote in her song Home is the heart"

Home is the heart made real
Home is the heart we feel, made real

Hope your heart is soon feeling more at home, Song! Wherever that may be!

Song,

Your country and mine will always make fun of each other. That's what we do.

(I think it has to do with being too close or something.)

Beyond that, I have friends in your country and respect it's not easy these days for them on the world stage. Hopefully, with new leadership and a new direction, that will all begin to change for the better.

Song, I should have stuck to the original words I was thinking of posting, wich was this one: "Every road away from home is the road home", I didnīt and I apologise for not. Hope you will forgive me.

My wife studied at the Univercity of Guelph in Canada, in her first year she missed home enormously...so much that she almost..........well it was difficult. Her last three years we decided I would go with her and that helped. At that time my brother also lived in New York and every other or third weekend I drove to NY and visited him.....once we even drove all the way to Florida.......

So I have been in both countrys and I love both countrys, because of all the good people that live in them......The politics, well that is a whole other subject and I have learned not to judge people from the policy of the goverment elected.

Hope you are doing well. It is normal to miss home (America), but the best place to be is where one is in the present time...wait a few years and you will see that there is some truth in that.

PS DaveM, to civilised for me to have come up with something like that.
