WOW ! nothing like 200,000 REDNECKS on a sunday afternoon watching cars run around a track 267 times. i think i could of had more fun sitting home watching grass grow in the desert.i got Free Tickets from my Vegas Casino i go to all the time so my friend Tim Barr wanted to go. we went to 2 races one on sat and one on sunday.i can NOT believe They could put that many People in one place They All looked the same. except for the Hats. im talking about the people not the race drivers . Come to think about it They all looked related TOO !

The crowds are often far more entertaining at a stock car race than the race itself. Glad you had a good time, Sax....and I'll bet nobody accused you of looking like everybody else.

hey mike...

just a suggestion... if you want to enjoy a race go to the oranage show in san bernardino on a saturday night.... lots of good racing.... many short races by people that are in it for the sake of good competition.... not big dollars.... i for one have lost all interest in so called professional sports wether racing, football or baseball....

best to you...

I spent a month in Detroit for a Grand Prix one weekend. Jeez, what a boring spectacle. We have a Grand Prix here in a couple of weeks, but all it does for me is buggar up the road I take to my Melbourne apartment.

Sounds like fun Saxman :D I bet you want to go again real soon.
As a European I think that that many rednecks in one place can be quite entertaining. It's something I don't see every day. Like Dutch wooden shoes for tourists when they come here.

I never understood the fascination some people have with going around in a circle, very fast, for a long time!!! Don't they get dizzy? :D

Or for that matter, those giant wheeled "monster" truck rallies that go around running over and crushing other cars!! Sheeesh!!

I occassionaly watch a Nascar race, but i honestly don't care who wins.. I want to see something on fire and car parts skidding down the pavement.

(No driver injuries though please!.. Just stuff on fire)

You have to admit Mike, it is exciting. I went in October to Dover Delaware. The track is one mile long and is nicknamed "The Monster Mile" because of the record that it has for so many wrecks. And that day we saw plenty of them. No injuries thank God. I went with a friend courtesy of Fed Ex out of Pittsburgh. They had this huge pavillion that the Fed Ex guests congregated in. Completely air conditioned with food and beverages all day long and Fed Ex hats, tee shirts, bumper stickers, key chains, pins, etc. It is hard to explain the feeling you get seeing all those people in the sunshine on a warm, balmy day and hearing those engines and seeing the cars flying around the track. I compare it second in excitement to a Janis Ian concert. You get an adrenaline rush that is unbelievable!

I'm glad I'm not the only racing fan around here!

A lot of people where I work are NASCAR fans. Frankly, I don't get it. Got 2 free tickets a couple of years ago to see motorcycle drag races, so we went. The race is over in about 5 seconds. What's the point? Ended up doing more people watching than anything else. Some interesting anthropological specimens in the crowd, I must say. No one there I would particularly want to hang with.

The white ones are a bit to shiny for my taste. But I LOVE the blue ones.

Outnumbered? Doesn't matter. I like what I like no matter who else likes it or not. I am sort of a rabid environmentalist. Yeah, I have hugged trees. And that's just the start. And I know roughly how much fuel and rubber and oil and etc. is used in even a single race, from stock to (preferred) F1, and I still like racing. I know it's ironic, even contradictory. As it happens, I can't change the proclivities I was born with.
