I've been hearing news reports about the wild weather in Germany and elsewhere in Europe. Wind gusts up to 100 mph! CNN is showing footage of a Lufthansa plane that had to abort its first landing attempt, scraping a wing on the runway. Scary stuff. Stay safe, EuroRudies!

Thanks for asking, Randy. The weekend has been uncomfortable but not as bad as expected. I, too, saw the footage of the plane on TV tonight. Thank God, the pilot was brave!
For now the worst part seems to be over.

Here are some pics: http://www.spiegel.de/fotostrecke/0,5538,29474,00.html

... and, well, I must admit that we've been quite lucky in the part of Germany where Rachel and I live.

Ohh...I saw that footage too!
That was incredible!

Stay Safe, Mimi!
And don't let Toto fly away! ;)

A Lufthansa airplane with 130 people on board carried by strong Emma hurricane during a landing attempt at the Hamburg airport. Ouchh.

Wow...not only was that pilot brave, Mimi, but he was lucky and darned good, too! That was some storm! We sometimes have those in Cincinnati, too...not often, thank goodness! The damage is worst in the winter after an ice storm has coated the trees with about 2-3" of ice, making them heavy and easily broken. Last March we had that happen and lost many branches, but it was from the ice and not because of a gale wind, though it was windy, too.

From the news coverage, I gather these storms are rare in Germany...lucky for you!

Yes, but haven't you heard? There is no climate change.

Guess it's just one big mass hallucination.

Just weather as usual in Cinci. Yesterday was 60 F, today was 65 F. Now it's raining and will be in the 40s and upper 30s for the rest of the week, with a wintry mix (read sleet) due sometime Wednesday.
Somehow, I don't think the weather is going to matter one whit to those voting tomorrow...I'd get out in a snowstorm, and so would a lot of others!

If Lufthansa has trouble landing, you know things are bad. They employ the most talented and insane pilots on earth. No matter what the weather, if they can get they engines started, they'll fly in it. And heaven help you if you're still standing in the aisle when they hit the throttle.

It was quite a storm yes. It was worse in other countries (Germany, Austria, Tsjech Republic) as it was here in the Netherlands. I hope it doesn't get worse. I haven't been outside for a few days and my television gave up some weeks ago. So I don't really know what is going on to be honest.

My brother lives in Dublin and right on the night of the storm he was flying home from London. The storm was, as I heard, also going on in the UK. My brother is very afraid of flying. He told my mother that this flight was a nightmare for him. Luckily not like that Lufthansa airplane but let's say very, very 'bumpy'. He was not a happy man.

That's quite a reputation :)

The weather channel here is posting a flood warning AND a tornado watch for tonight until 0300 tomorrow. Time to batten down the hatches.

Here is the pilot that saved the lives of 137 passangers of the airplane that almost chrased in the landing. She had the control of the plane in this landing.

24 year old co-pilot Maxi J.

Is it not typical that the 37 year old male pilot took all the credit for this incredible save.

You tell me man! ;)
But seriously. I think she is a hero. This young and already so skilled. Maybe it is her youth that made her so brave as to do what she did.
