View Full Version : I want cuddles...
And well-wishes and pats on the back. I have a nasty flu and I am feeling very sorry for myself. This thread is for anyone who wants the cuddles, well-wishes and pats on the back. And for anyone who is willing to give them.
Now where is that butch with a warm cup of tea and a blanket...? :(

I ain't afierd... I done had me a flu shot! Hugs and hot coco to you my friend! And a quick recovery! I pity the poor bug that gets you down; He'll need Oprah on his back to keep Rudie Vibes away!

I'll send you all the virtual hugs you want! I think I had the precursor to the current flu bug, and it was bad enough! And it lasted forever. I hope yours is over quickly.

Will this do, Eva? It's soft and cuddly.

Hey, Elliot, haven't you heard?...the flu shot missed the boat this year and the strain that is going around isn't in the package...a bad one, too. They'll include that strain in next year's shot. Oops.

That's the best I can do, Eva. I'm tired and hungry and it's past my bedtime.
Feel better soon.

Lucky for us Bat, in Houston, the strain that's going around is covered. I looked it up on the CDC website. No one I know who has had the flu vaccine in the Houston area has gotten the bug. Lot's who didn't get the shot did.... My sister and brother-in-law were down almost two weeks, and they haven't been sick in years. I am concerned that a small population in Austrailia, near the end of their flu season came down with a harsher version of the flu that is not covered by the shots in Texas, but so far so good. I'm going through hand sanitizer like crazy, and not touching my face if I can help it. It seems like peole who are too sick to go to work think they will feel better with a fresh haircut. I hate that.... If you are sick, please stay at home! And they bring their nasty, snotty nosed kids in with them. Half the time when I leave work I feel like I need a "Silkwood" shower! And I'm not a germaphobe. I just always use paper towels to open and close doors and take advantage of those nifty grocery carts with the pop up sanitizers on them. The last thing I need is the flu....

Eva:
I'm sending you a virtual cup of hot tea.
However, the hugs will have to wait. I myself am in considerable pain at the moment with a bad tooth. Oral surgery is scheduled for tomorrow.. the sucker is in rough shape and a simple extraction it will not be. I shall be drugged up and out for the count for a few days.
Did I mention that I HATE dentists and dentistry...

Ugh. I had this flu and it's no fun. My heart goes out to you, Eva.
Have some virtual chicken soup on me.
And Amy, try putting some crushed cloves from your spice rack on a Q-tip and rubbing it on the affected area for now. It works wonders.

I had the flu shot this year and it didn't work....grrrrrr.....
Crushed whole cloves (or clove oil if you can get it) do indeed work great for a toothache. Even herbal teas with cloves in them will help if the heat does not bother you.
You might get some relief from Oragel or something of the sort but not necessarily. However....it's not expensive so you don't have much to lose.
Definitely with you in your hatred of dentists....
Aaaaaw, thank you all for the rudievibes, virtual chickensoup, (virtual) hugs, cuddles and wellwishes. You are sweet. It's like receiving flowers. A really good feeling. Thanks again
Yesterday (and this night) was the worst flu moment. So yesterdayevening I gave in to my need for selfpity. I think sometimes one needs to have a day like that to go on again after that. I took the hot cocoa advice. I have a steaming cup right next to me. I have a flushot every year by the way. But it doesn't really seem to matter  Well, maybe I would have felt worse without it. Who knows...
I have bronchitis so the first thing I need to take care of in case of fu or cold are my longues. If I don't take care of them I could come down with an inflammation of my respetorysstem. It's no fun, believe me. So it's usually the first thing I have checked when I feel something is 'not right' there. My longues are allright the doctor said but sensitive at the moment. So I am being very careful here.
Gisli, your illness is insanity, not flu. If you don't mind I am going to stay away from you and your swimmingpool  But have fun!
Mary, what a cute little teddybear! Okay, here's a 'secret'. I sleep with a my favourit teddybear each night. It's a white little monkey. He is about 20 years old and his name is Tarzan. Yeah... even Pirates need love.
Amy, thanks for the tea. Just what I needed. I'll take a raincheck on the cuddles then. My heart goes out to you with the tootthing. I guess the surgery is today... Take care Amy! Rudievibes to you. And it's okay to feel sorry for yourself.

Are you sure you haven't been in contact with Marjan - not the virtual one - as she has been sick too. C'mon 'fess up - what's goin' on. Virtual hugs and take lots of Jewish penicillin (chicken soup). The ubiquitous "they" say that if you take medication it will take two weeks to get better, and if you don't take anything it will take a fortnight. :D
All the best Amy.
I haven't seen Marjan for a while now. I'm sorry! I can't tell you anything that you would find ehm... interesting.
I have a friend and some relatives who are doctors. Their advice is always to keep warm, eat things that are easy on the stomache, drink enough and don't take anything one wouldn't take otherwise. That keeps the body most free of changes and it will heal by itself.
Chickensoup fits the profile of warm, liquid, easy on the stomache and something I would eat on other occasions too. Good idea.

Yes, chicken soup is very good... and a good dose of garlic in it wouldn't hurt either... I can't get enough of garlic, plus it's good for ya!
Mmmmmm... garlic...

Yeah but........
Well then....here is what my mother gave me when I got the flu as a young kid.
1 cup hot water
2 tbsp juice from lemon
1 tbsp honey or brown sugar
Drink it while hot.
It worked all the time, I still use it.....with the variation of using Distilled Water instead of boiling water.......and skipping the honey.........and the lemon juice.......
And look where it got you Gisli: wanting to swim while having a flu
Thank you Rickster. Teasing Gisli helps :D

I prescribe Tequilla and lots of it.. It may not cure the flu, but after a half bottle you won't give a toss

Mark Twain asked a doctor how to cure a cold. The doctor recommended a quart of whiskey. He went to another doctor, who recommended the same. Since that made half a gallon, he decided he didn't need any more doctors.
Twain's essay, "On Curing A Cold", may well be online somewhere.
Poor thing.. How are you feeling today, my dear queen?
Well, with all this booz advice: if it doesn't kill me it will make me stronger  I gave in and am trying now if wine has the right effect. Anything stronger I can't really handle, I am afraid. I don't know if it helps but it tastes good.
I am doing much better than yesterday and the past night. I still bark like a seal but the fever went away and now every third muscle in my body hurts instead of every one muscle. I'd say that means I am gaining territory here
Amy, how are you doing? Were you able to sleep this night?
Eva
PS: don't try to do your finances on wine like I did tonight. I didn't understand what I was doing at all. And all the numbers came out differently every time  I blame Gisli.

Eva:
I had a nice anesthesia hang over nap this afternoon. I am, remarkably, not in too much pain, given how deep they had to dig.
I am living on ice cream and Commit lozenges. Part of the deal is that for the extraction, bone graft and implant to suceed, the STRONGLY recommend one stop smoking.
Since, even with pretty good dental insurance this whole thing is gonna cost me $3,000, I am committed to trying my best to quit.
Warn the neighbors, cause once I'm out of pain meds and ice cream, it could get ugly!

Eva & Amy,
I hope both of you are feeling better soon. Mr.Oak has been having a horrible headache for 2 days which is radiating up the side of his face from his jaw. He'll be going to the dentist tomorrow.
Oak
Amy, 3000 dollars. Yikes! I'd say keep up the icecream a bit longer if it will stop you from getting grumpy while you quit smoking. If you really have to / want to, you'll find you can do it Amy. Now you have to believe it too, okay?
Oak, poor mr. Oak. Wish him all the best. Those tooththings are terrible. I hope he can have icecream too afterwards. Maybe that softens the pain a bit in more than one way. Put a cat in his lap for cuddling. Or even better, go sit in his lap yourself.
I am doing reasonably well. I did have a fever again this night and I still feel a bit too feeble to go out or whatever. Worse was that I (again!) spontanously started bleeding this night. It doesn't really hurt, but bleeding just because? That's weird and it can't be right. I will be so happy when the time comes for that wombexamination (end of March)
