Dave Lee Travis will be broadcasting his show with me in the UK this Sunday, I believe 9 am - 12 pm. A good interview, and I sing 3 songs - At 17, Joy, and the new song.
Those of you not in the UK can tune in as follows. I'd give it a day or two after Sunday before trying though.
Janis

For your info, the show goes out from 9.00am to 12.00 midday on Sunday morning, I guess the best way to ensure you and your fans here and abroad can hear it is to tune in on the web: go to www.bbc.co.uk/threecounties and hit the listen live button, that should do it.

Ooo ... Dave Lee Travis. That name takes me back many years and to a time in Malaysia when we were in the midst of racial riots resulting in nationwide curfew. With nothing to do (no school - yeah!), we were glued to the TV all day and that was when the one and only TV channel at the time started broadcasting a show from Germany called Beat Club. DLT was the host with a German girl called Valerie.

Ah, what memories.

Oh yes, I'll be tuning in to the show, Janis. Curious about the new song you wrote after the UK LRC.

What a great choice, Janis! DLT was the DJ I used to get ready for school with, he has a great sense of humour, a bit like our idol.
I'm so looking forward to hearing that interview - and THREE songs to boot!
(But no boot songs, Rowy!)
;)

Idol? You mean Janis? But, but ... she's not my idol. She my HERO! Or should that be shero?

Yippee!! That I brilliant news. Not just that I get to hear the New Song againbut also that the BBC is apparently really supportive of Janis's tour at the moment. See, this alone is worth paying my license fee. I listen to Ken Bruce in the office and the Tracks of my Years slot has already lead to me playing FITNB to a few colleagues who really liked it.

Chet

The BBC's support of Janis's tour this year is all due to the support of the UK Rudies, particularly a certain blonde lady from Manchester. ;) They have been emailing the various radio stations, asking them to feature Janis.

Thank you, UK Rudies!

Very true I suspect but even then, they didn't HAVE to take it up. And so many BBC stations picked up on it. I was actually very surprised by that. Shame they don't play enough of the new album though. Even the Tracks of my Years slot does not seem to inspire Ken Bruce to playing something from FITNB. Or did I miss it?

Chet

The fact that they did only confirms that Janis rules, and Rudie power works.

dutchcloggie

Indeed. SO, actually, we have proved that it pays to be Rude:D

But I thought maybe she may not like that, although she's mine.

I can't take the credit for the BBC interviews, although I did employ a drip-drip-drip technique on repeatedly emailing four shows who I know are receptive to Janis. I think Janis' agent will have had a lot more influence than I!

I too, am disappointed in what Ken Bruce has played of Janis' songs this week, they normally fit in more of the artist's music along with their choices.

Just getting ready to hear today's Tracks..... fifteen minutes to go.

Ken Bruce finally got around to asking about the tour and the new album on today's Tracks of My Years: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/bruce/

If you check the Listen Again feature later today or tomorrow, it should be there.

..... and Janis mentioned us all!

"My fans are very excited about this show"

Slight understatement I'd say, Janis.
:D

Chet
05-05-2006, 06:01 AM
She didn't mention anyone by name?

dutchcloggie
05-05-2006, 06:23 AM
Nope. Nor did Ken take the opportunity to actually PLAY a track of the new album. What is it about radio stations that they simply refuse to play new music? They played Jesse earlier this week but it seems they think it makes sense to play At17 and then talk about the NEW album..... I am confused.

But hey, ANY attention is better than no attention.

That's great Janis, thanks for letting us know! And yay we will hear the new song!

Thanks Janis, for telling us about this one. My link kept breaking up, probably overloaded with Rudies! :D

Wasn't it great that Dave and Janis talked about her fan base for so long? We're nearly famous, folks!

For those who missed it, the Listen Again feature should be active later today, using the same link, choose "Dave Lee Travis and 7 May".

;)

Rowy

David, what are we going to do? No Janis for 3-4 years

We will have to go to Holland in October to see her there. Perhaps a bunch of UK Rudies could make the trip and fit in a couple of concerts?

I'd better start making plans for a LRC for my 65th birthday!!

Thank you, Janis. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/threecounties/

Click on the "Listen Again" button, which is next to the "Listen Live" button. Both are below the maroon-coloured mini "BBC Three Counties Radio" banner near the top right side of the page.

After clicking on the "Listen Again" button, a separate window will pop up. Click on "Dave Lee Travis" beneath the "A-Z of All Shows".

He says that Janis is about 20 minutes in. I used the "skip ahead 5 minutes" button, but only skipped about 10 minutes as I don't want to miss ANYTHING!!!

I just listened to the interview and was taken by the calming assuredness in Janis' voice. What a delight.

Loved the new song. I think the title is "Single Again". A bit obvious perhaps, but seems to fit.

Thanks for performing it in an accessible way!

...that the song has now been openly performed and that I could now write about it on my website and perhaps drop a few lines of it on my wedding invitations? Obviously I don't want to violate any copyrights etc.

Dutchcloggie, you are welcome to quote from it for your wedding invitations, but it does have to "go through channels". Please send an email to Kimbe or myself telling us the quote you want to use, and asking formal permission; that way the publishers and administrators don't get upset.

Janis, thanks for that.

However, (future) Mrs. Cloggie and I decided against printing wedding invitations in the end. We are a bit short of cash and since everyone we wanted to invite has an email address, we simply sent out emails instead and use the money we save that way to fund our honeymoon to Canada!! (feel so cheap! Even our reception is Pay As You Go!

:D

Thanks for a really funny song though. It made me (and a lot of my friends who I played it to after recording the radio show) laugh out loud.
