View Full Version : For Bat: Was it Ellen MacArthur we discussed recently?
I think it might've been on the middle board since I can't find anything about her on this current one. But I remember you posted something about her sailing round the world and coming to Malaysia.
Well, I just saw an article about her in one of our local newspapers today. She is expected to arrive on the island of Pulau Duyong on our East Coast within this week and will meet our Prime Minister on 9 May.

My apologies if I got the name wrong and it isn't Ellen MacArthur discussed recently.
Oh, Chet, thanks so much for sending that link! You're absolutely right about it being Ellen MacArthur...Dame Ellen, yet! Amazing accomplishments for one so young. Can you imagine all the heads of state she has gotten to meet, and the places she's been...all over the world, usually at sea, but sometimes stopping over at exotic ports, like this tour. Thank goodness, she has help!
She usually sails alone, on a 60' monohull or 75' Trimaran...good grief!
She's my hero. It's too bad she won't be near enough for you to go see her.
She usually gives a very good speech, and she's pretty cute, only 5'2, if that.
She also does great things for kids, like taking a bunch out sailing with her and letting them work the boat...a great thrill for a little kid suffering with cancer. It really gives them a lift; there's nothing really more exciting than speeding along at 10 miles an hour in a heeling sailboat...you'd swear you were going much faster than that! I'm so into it, I love to watch sailboat regattas like some people like to watch golf.
Ok, nuf sed. Thanks again, Chet! :D

When she meets our Prime Minister on the 9th, she will actually be within driving distance. Unfortunately, since she's meeting the Prime Minister, she will be treated like royalty (which she probably is), and therefore will be surrounded by security and what-have-you, so there's little chance of seeing her up close and personal.
I will continue to monitor the papers for news about her.
Glad my little brain is still functioning well enough to remember right.
Thanks again, Chet...it's really hard to forget her, once you read about her exploits and adventures, isn't it?
Yes, she is a Dame of the British Empire, a title bestowed upon her by the Queen, but not one she can pass on to any children, should she have any...
I think that's right...correct me if I err. What I know about Titles you could put in a thimble! :p
And yes, she will be pretty busy if she is talking to the President, but there's always the Motorcade to get to the place they're going to meet. People will be able to get a glimpse of her as the car goes by...I would probably not go to any trouble to be on the route, unless it was within a block or 2, and I had a chance to get a picture. What I'd really like to do is be on the dock when she sails in, and maybe have her throw me a line! LOL

What I want to know is......should I be jealous? ;)
Marcia, the one who gets seasick in a Jacuzzi......................
Oh, heck no, Marcia...she's just one to admire for her wonderful exploits and courage. But she's never home! Footloose and fancy free is fine...for someone else, but you're my drummergal and I think I'm lucky! :o
