I'll go along with that. The American celebrity system has developed a terrible habit of chewing people up and spitting them up. We only see the ones who fall hard after flying high....the heartbreaks that never make it to the paparazzi level go unnoticed.

It's a damned shame, a terrible waste, and completely inexcusable.

Australians mourn Heath Ledger

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Shocked Australians were on Wednesday mourning the death of actor Heath Ledger in a New York apartment possibly from a drug overdose, but his family said the death was a tragic accident.

Ledger, 28, the gifted leading man acclaimed for his role as a gay cowboy in the film "Brokeback Mountain," was found naked at the foot of the bed by his housekeeper in what police said was a possible drug overdose. An autopsy is to be conducted.

"We, Heath's family, can confirm the very tragic, untimely and accidental passing of our dearly loved son, brother and doting father of Matilda," his father Kim said, reading from a statement outside the family home in Perth, in Western Australia.

Ledger's mother Sally and sister Kate gathered with Kim Ledger at the family's suburban home and said they wanted to be left to grieve in private.

"We would like to thank our friends and everyone around the world for their well-wishes and kind thoughts at this time," Kim Ledger said.

"Heath has touched so many people on so many different levels during his short life that few had the pleasure of truly knowing him," he said.

People and neighbors left flowers and cards outside the house where Ledger spent much of December and January on holiday visiting friends.

"What a terrible tragedy. My heart goes out to his family," actress and fellow Australian Nicole Kidman said.

"I am so upset, I just can't tell you," said Margaret Pomeranz, one of Australia's top film critics.

"It's just such an incredible waste. I mean he is such a talented boy and ... a beautiful soul," she told local radio.

I don't watch many movies - matter of fact I finally saw "Broke Back Mountain" a few months ago - but for my opinion I thought this guy was an incredible actor. One of those people with much presence combined with intense talent. A loss, to be sure.

I'm very curious as to how his final acting role will turn out, he is the Joker in the next Batman film. From what i've seen of the promos, Ledger is taking it in a very different direction than Nicholson did previously.

I just read in the paper that his Joker would be a much darker character.

I never saw Brokeback Mountain. In fact I can't remember when I last went to the pictures. I think C and I are going to see the new Johnny Depp film on Saturday.....

Annabel, I went to see Sweeney Todd a couple weeks ago. I liked it and thought Johnny did a very good job of singing. Be prepared, it's mostly 90% singing.... I'm not a fan of Sondheim music so I never did go see the actual play on Broadway... but I figured I'd give the movie a shot, since I do like Tim Burton's movies and Johnny's not a bad combination.

Johnny reminded of David Bowie when he sang... so for me... that's not all bad :)

So, I hope you enjoy your time at the movies. Next movie I want to see is Juno. And this weekend I think I shall go rent John Cameron Mitchel's "Shortbus". That was a hoot when I saw it out at the moviehouse, I must buy the DVD. :)

Are these halfwits even allowed into Australia?

I keep waiting for God to attend to them as any reasonable God would.

That these folks have not long since received a very large lightning bolt seems a strong argument against God taking any interest in human affairs.

Catherine saw it the other day, Mary. She loved it, and I saw a review...so I suggested we go and see it together on Saturday..... :) I don't think I'll be disappointed

paul, that is just crazy!
davem, if God were to interact with these people, even blow them off the face of the earth, they would come out smelling like they have been highly blessed and spoken to by God...then they would change everything He said to suit them...sounds like th bible kinda...hmmm

I had it wrong. His funeral will be held in the US. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k267/deemark/Emoticons/crying.jpg

"As tributes to the Oscar-nominated "Brokeback Mountain" star continued to flow in, Australian model Sophie Ward said she was planning to fly to the United States on Friday for Ledger's funeral service."

What a pity.

I hope somebody, someday, attends one of those protested funerals with an Uzi, providing the local mortician with a lot of business for the crematorium.
Sorry, but hatred of my way of life inspires me to reciprocal hatred.

Barricades outside Ledger funeral home

Fri. Jan. 25 2008 1:48 PM

NEW YORK (AP) - Police set up barricades outside a funeral home Friday as Heath Ledger's family made arrangements to claim the body of the 28-year-old "Brokeback Mountain" actor.

A private viewing was scheduled for Friday at the Frank E. Campbell funeral home in Manhattan, and Ledger's family was flying to the U.S. from his native Australia.

NEW YORK, (AP) - The body of Heath Ledger was taken from a New York City funeral home as the family prepared to bury the "Brokeback Mountain" actor. Details about the funeral remained shrouded in secrecy.

The body was moved from the police-barricaded funeral home at about 4 p.m. Friday amid a swarm of cameras and reporters. Ledger's publicist, Mara Buxbaum, said funeral arrangements "will continue to be kept private at the family's request."' [Yay!]

Their immediate plans were not known, though Australian Foreign Minister, Stephen Smith, said his government would do whatever is needed to help the family bring back Ledger's body to his native Australia.

Oh, Paul, that's hilarious! Thanks. And what I love most is that it's young kids doing it...the future of our country is intact!
