My foot got stuck
in the mud
on the side
of the road,
as i walked
toward whatever
heaven or hell
I wouldn't even recognize
when i got there.
I saw the trash
that lay there too.
pulling my leg free
to move forward again
i tried
to clean as much grime
and muck away
as i could
while others sped by
unaware of my exisitance
and maybe their own.

i knew there'd be more
dirt, sludge, garbage
waiting up ahead
for me to clean away
and i wondered
if i'd survive
long enough to live

I know that feeling. It's why I wear boots. Great poem.I can see the trash filled roadside, getting caught up in other people's crap.

that's one of the things i like about art, no matter the forum, you get from it what you need. snake i love your take on my poem, i had totally not thought about that. i was writting about my own junk, you know, the messes we get ourselves into and the tough times in life, all the things set up to teach us lessons and humility. and the things that scare us or make us weary. thank you all for sharing your point of view

Ehm yes... I saw the word 'shoes' in the name of the thread. Actually, I think Hoops had just posted it... But because I am a total poetry illiterate, I thought I shouldn't go into the shoething and just let others enjoy the poetry. :) But don't think I didn't notice, Marjan! ;)

Nice. A bit of personal reflection is never bad.

As we look at the shoes we’ve had
And the good times we’ve had
Which pair would be the best of all?
The ones that served us best
And those whose heel snapped off at the most inopportune moment?

To those who have cared for us and to those who have let us down.
I thank you all for making me who I am.
