Of course my finger slipped as I wrote the title of this, I do know McCaffrey has two f's!

Alas, I couldn't be there, but you can read about the party here:
http://forums.srellim.org/showthread.php?p=36159#post36159

and here's the little limerick I wrote in her honor:

There once was a girl named McCaffrey
Who moved to the land of the banshee
By dragons possessed
She had great success
And occasional bats in her belfry.

She learned young to speak high Slavonic
Which may be some sort of colonic
Wrote novels in Latin that filled up the dustbin
And opera was often a tonic.

She acted some parts in the theater
Then later became the director
Of oddly named plays
‘til she left the stage
and became a world famous author.

Now normally here, I’d be vulgar
Find dozens of ways to insult her
But birthdays are rare
And I really don’t dare
To match wits with my favorite writer.

So Annie, my congratulations
Enjoy all your friends and relations
In a decade or two
I’ll be as old as you
That should be a great consolation!

All my love Janis Ian

Thank you for the link!

Gee... you didn't insult her at all... just called her old...

Great Limerick!

Happy birthday wishes to Anne McCaffrey! I do happen to have a few books around the house...

I've been in line for a dragon for years! I do hope she had a fine birthday, and I do hope she lets me onto the hatching sands one of these days.

Happy birthday, m'lady. May the dragons lend you their wings to soar for as long as you like.

Nice limerick Janis. She must have been tickled pink when her daughter read it to her.

A delightful tribute, Janis--and my belated birthday wishes to Ms. McCaffrey as well.

My cat also drinks from the tap--when it suits him.

....... my cat zoe started drinking from the tap when she was a baby.... although she will turn 6 this year and now weighs 15 pounds... she STILL manages to get herself up and on the either the kitchen or bathroom sink to get a drink when she feels the urge too..... it is so funny.. I have several pics of her doing that........... ;-)

Some of our kitties like to drink running water, too...but since I won't let them up on the sink and counters, I got them a lovely fountain that runs all the time..they love it and don't bother the counters at all, which doesn't bother me at all, either. We try to keep them happy and us, too...lots of scratching posts and cat trees for them to scratch, so they dont' shred the furniture, and they love to sleep on their perches which keeps our cushions fairly free of cat hair...gotta keep a step ahead of the little blighters or they'll take over the place. Sorta like furry pirates, with little claws like knives!

One of our two outside kitties is a little dork. We put a bowl of fresh water out for her every day. What does she prefer to drink? Whatever sledge accumulates in any container or hole in our backyard.
