But I have no idea how to set it up. All I'm using it for now is email. How does one go about making it look good? Do you buy software, or hire a webmaster? I'm not going to spend money on this thing, I thought it was something I could do myself. Any suggestions?

At the very least, it will make an interesting pet--and probably require about as much care and feeding.

Elliot...it depends on what you want to use it for, how much bandwith you need, do you want to design it yourself, do you want 1 page or multiple pages, do you want to use html, flash animation....etc, etc.

Here is a link to mine...I have my own domain and I designed it myself using mostly html. Maybe it can give you some ideas....

http://www.garlandcrowns.com/

If you want something really easy and free....Yahoo GeoCities might be a good place to start (if you want to put up with ads on your page)

Do you have a link to it?

Heh. the journal of the mouse (http://rubyrain.net/speechless/).

I made my first site in 1998, and have had a total of four, I think. The current one began in 2001. I have done them all myself. I have never spent a nickel. Everything you need to create and maintain a website is available for free, if you want to do it.

I learned HTML coding by trial and error in 1998, using Netscape Composer 4.0 as a wysiwyg (what you see is what you get) editor, and looking at the code it created. My knowledge of HTML has not progressed beyond 1998, however, and one day I may find myself writing code that modern browsers can no longer render. But hey--so far, so good.

Nice site, sister rose. :D

Elliott,

The domain name in your e-mail address (elliottmartinstudio.com) implies this is to be for a business. IF that is so, you might want to reconsider hiring someone to put something together for you professionally. Badly constructed web sites (and there are plenty) reflect negatively on a business' image and you could lose interested customers because of it.

My two nickels.

Ah, yes. Very true, very true. Luckily, though, my image is so bad already that my poorly constructed website hardly hurts me at all.

I agree with you Dee... but at least getting email from my own domain is better than hotmail, ect..... One of my sisters has a great site, and it says its created and maintained by her. Hope she will help. Thanks, E
