U.K. twins separated at birth unwittingly marry (http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20080111/twins_marriage_080111/20080111?hub=TopStories)

A pair of twins in Britain who were separated at birth and adopted by separate families were married without realizing they were brother and sister, a legislator recently told the country's House of Lords.

A court annulled the couple's union after they discovered their true relationship, Lord David Alton said during a Dec. 10 debate in the House of Lords.

Alton provided few other details about the case during the five-hour debate on a bill that would change regulations about human embryology. He said he had been told about the unusual case by a judge, whom he did not name.

"I was recently involved in a conversation with a High Court judge who was telling me of a case he had dealt with,'' Alton said. "It involved the normal birth of twins who were separated at birth and adopted by separate parents.

"They were never told that they were twins. They met later in life and felt an inevitable attraction, and the judge had to deal with the consequences of the marriage that they entered into and all the issues of their separation.''

The case was first reported Friday in London's Evening Standard....

Did he by any chance say anything about it "being like kissing your sister"?

'Round these parts, the twins don't have to be separated in order for them to get up close and personal. Marriage is another matter. Most likely that's what makes the story uniquely British.

Come to think of it, there was a Minnesota case some years ago where a kid landed in the foster care system at a very early age, was eventually adopted, grew up, more or less....and wound up unknowingly wooing and marrying his biological mother.

Freud, thou shouldst be living....

By modifying a TV remote a 14-year-old boy from Lodz, Poland, managed to gain control over the junctions of the tracks (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/01/11/tram_hack/). According to The Register the boy had 'trespassed in tram depots to gather information needed to build the device. [...] Transport command and control systems are commonly designed by engineers with little exposure or knowledge about security using commodity electronics and a little native wit.' Four trams derailed in the process injuring a number of passengers. The boy is now looking at 'charges at a special juvenile court of endangering public safety.'"

a remote!!??!!? geeze this really changes the possibility of arm chair quaterbacks.

I wonder if thee twins wondered at any tim before they "knew' why they got along so well...forget soulmates...womb mates...dna mates...there ar thousands of studies about twins connecting in ways that no one else can understand, having secret languages, being able to send messages by thought only. a perfect couple, that's why it could never work j/k... i feel bad for them in some way. it's not like they knew.

The trams in Lodz (pronounced "Woodge", since it's in Poland, after all), as of a few years ago, were the same ones that were running during World War II. They have no suspension and some ride as if there are chunks missing from the wheels. Most have only a couple of seats (and a lot of rails for standees to hang onto), but if you tell whoever is sitting in them that you are drunk they will let you have them (I know this from experience).

Presumably the control system has been updated since these contraptions were built since remote controls are a somewhat more recent innovation. Then again....I can recall Poles saying "it's Polish" with a shrug to explain anything that was broken/dirty/badly designed/what have you.

I want that remote control! For other uses, mind.

I feel bad for them too. They are kind of stuck in a terrible place now.
Maybe they should move to where Dave lives. Nobody cares there what their relationship is. Sometimes redneckcountry has it's charming sides

You all take it easy on Dave's north country. After all, it gave us Dave - and what would we do without him?

You lost me there Dave. Who is he?

I meant the male twin.

My area also produced Bob Dylan, who left the area when he was around 18, with the strong encouragement of most of the area. He is noted for saying "The Iron Range is a great place to leave".

I don't have the excuse of having been born here....I moved here from another rural area with no idea of what I was getting into. And, while I have no real "roots" here, I do have financial commitments which make moving on an unattractive prospect for the moment.

What a predicament... Poor things, falling in love like that and then realising they can't be together after all....

Well they can if they want. But their relationship won't be recognised and having children is a big risk.
