Yesterday morning, I left early to drive my folks to Chicago where my dad was to see a specialist for head pain. We drove through terrible rainstorms, so we were later getting there than we thought. We still got to the clinic with not problem, and right on time.
We had made reservations at a hotel right off Michigan Ave, and were prepared to stay the night if they kept him. My friend told me the day before we left that someone she knows goes there sometimes, and they keep him 5-6 days, so we didn't really know what to expect.
After I sat in the most gawd-awful chair for 2 1/2 hours, they said he could go home, and do further tests in Indianapolis. Fine. Due to the time, I said we needed to leave right then, or get something to eat and hang out for a while to avoid rush hour traffic. They wanted to eat at Ed Debevic's, so we went there. It's a really fun diner with smart-ass employees and good food.
So far, so good.
We got on the expressway a little before 6 Chi. time, and despite some normal traffic, we headed home.
We started seeing signs about high water on I65, but no instructions about where to go. We ended up in an hour-long tie-up that led to a 60+ mile detour.
I had thought we'd get home by 11 PM, and I walked into my house at 1 AM.
Then my daughter called. She's had pneumonia the past week, and was having severe pain on her right side. I went to pick her up at her apt. and took her to the ER. Chest xray, new meds, and a breathing treatment later, I got back home and in bed at 5 AM!! I'm pooped! I hope these new meds get her all better. I'm still coughing, and sound like a baritone, but at least I feel better.
May I have that cheese, now?? Thanks for letting me whine.

What kind of cheese would you like? I have Tilset, Cheddar, and Jarlsberg at hand.
Sounds horrible, but glad you made it in one piece...delayed but whole.

I've got some friends who own an organic farm with a cheese dairy. They make organic goat cheese - it's yummy. Their cheese is called -
Holy Goats Cheeses. They are both retired bible bashers.:D
I'll try and get some for the picnic.

One of my sisters is a cheese rep for a gormet meat and cheese company. She drew my name for xmas, asked me what I wanted, and I told her cheese. A few days later I got a HUGE ice chest filled with enough goodies to take to every holiday party I went to this year. Be really careful around her when you ask for cheese.
I'm sorry you had a bad day; I'm glad it's over and you made it home. If I was there I would give you some cheese and a big hug. I'll just send good rudie vibes your way!

Sounds like a rough day for all of you...and I hope Dad is going to be ok...let us know--we worry.
I think you got enough cheese from those other generous Rudies...but I've got a lovely little white whine here with the title "Menage a trois". Had to buy it.

i just spit out my soda. Is there really a wine named that?!
Yes, Chris, there really is! I about dropped my uppers when I saw it in the store, The local Kroger supermarket, no less, and I don't think the people I gave it to have even bothered to look at the label yet...yes, I gave it away since wine is not on my list of things fit to be ingested. (I just really do not like the stuff!) I hope they read it someday and crack up like I did!:D At eleven bucks a bottle, it was probably pretty good stuff, too.

definitely for $11 for wine, it must be pretty good. Oh that's funny as hell. Wine doesn't do well with me either. Give me a good ol' gin & tonic anyday.
i think we should get eva that bottle. i'm sure she'd know exactly what to do with it:D

"The Chardonnay is rich and firm. The Muscat is wild and exotic. The Chenin is soft and supportive. Together they make the perfect threesome. "
Clever ad!
Sounds like Eva with a rich lawyer and a soft butch! LOL

you should become a comedienne.
Oh, how's Marilyn manson anyway? ;-)
You don't want to know...and realize that I'm being nice, here, a very difficult stance for me, against my basic grain.

I shop at Kroger too, and they carry that label at my store. I think its a hoot, and a great way to start a conversation with a couple of friends!

"...drunk or something..." does not bring out the evil in Bat! Just the funny!
I'll be puttin' on my punkin pants to sip that wine, Barb! We both know what a temptation they are. ;) I'd have to take numbers for a menage...oh, you know what I mean. LMAO
And thanks for all the cheese offers, y'all! I should experimet with a mushroom au gratin dish that they used to make at Max and Erma's back in te 70s. It was made of button mushrooms (or whatever was plentiful}, wine {whatevrer was leftover for the day) then mix it all together with eggs that were scrambled. yum Then they were bake until the cheese became nice golde brown
My dad seems to be doing OK. I don't know when the other tests will be done. He's 78, and has had a steady decline in his health over the past few years. About a year and a half ago, they got a darling little Bichon Frise/Poodle puppy and named her Bella. They both really dote on her and enjoy having her around. When I was young, Mom was the "dog person," and Dad didn't interact a whole lot with the dogs we had. With 5 kids, a dog probably has all the attention she can stand. Now he holds her in his lap and talks baby talk to her. MY DAD?!?!? go figure
Allsion is on a medical leave from school, and the docs don't want her going back until next Monday. It's nice that she can be so flexible. She hasn't been able to work her part time job at Bally Fitness. She's missing signing up all those 1st of the year patrons.
I took some medication a little while ago, and it's making me sleepy. I'm rambling an I can't focus.
Geeze, Karen, the whole fambly's fallin' apart! I hope you finish getting better, that Alison starts feeling better too, and that Dad enjoys that pup enough to make him well, too!
