View Full Version : It's MAY!!
Tra la! It's May!
The lusty month of May!
That lovely month when ev'ryone goes
Blissfully astray.
Tra la! It's here!
That shocking time of year
When tons of wicked little thoughts
Merrily appear!
It's May! It's May!
That gorgeous holiday
When ev'ry maiden prays that her lad
Will be a cad!
It's mad! It's gay!
A libelous display!
Those dreary vows that ev'ryone takes,
Ev'ryone breaks.
Ev'ryone makes divine mistakes
The lusty month of May!
sorry, I couldn't help myself..............Camelot is one of my favorite musicals and this is my favorite song from that show.

Wonder what the common folk are doing?
Wonder what the common folk are doing?
Well that's obvious! They are trying to see what the lusty folk are doing...

....and counting until I board the plane for San Francisco!
I am very excited... 1 day of travel, one day of class, 4 days of play time, then 3 more days of class and another day of travel.
This is only my second trip to the west coast. Last time was a 5 day conference in San Diego. Never left the hotel grounds! This time, I am gonna cut loose!
What are you doing in San Francisco?? Come on American Rudies, come and see the exciting and exotic Netherlands! Even better if you like technomusic.

Eva:
The San Francisco trip is primarily a business trip. It just so happens that there is a 4 day gap between the two courses I need to take at this particular location. The only other option was to fly back home and take the second course somewhere else, like Colorado.. seemed silly and much more expensive. So I convinced the powers that be that this was the most cost effective way to do it. They bought it, and so I am off to learn AND have some fun!

Not really wishing to hijack your thread, Dar, but I'm sure most of us have realised that many many folk songs start with, or include, a reference to May.
Your thoughts, please, anyone?
A starter, 'On the 14th of May, at the dawn of the day..............'
And I love the song you posted.
(Oh, BTW, if anyone doesn't know the song referred to above, and you are of a sensitive nature, or easily offended, don't go looking.)

Bah humbug it's May
The windy month of May
The depressing month when the weather turns
wet and cold each day
That shocking time of year
When the warming sun sets way too soon
Cold wet nights appear
It's May It's May
No sun no holiday
When ev'ry maiden prays that her lad
Won't be too sad
It's cold! It's grey!
A damp and cold display
Those dreary vows that ev'ryone takes
Ev'ry one breaks
Ev'ry one has those winter aches
The blusty month of May
(But Dee and I will have a tad of summer during our winter this year :D )
Supposed to reach 25°C this aft here in Ottawa today.
Also the annual Canadian Tulip Festival (http://www.tulipfestival.ca/en/index.php) begins today, so my boyfriend Jim and I are going to check out the gardens at the inner city Dow's Lake tomorrow morning.
Over three million tulips create an exotic mosaic of colour and beauty in Canada’s Capital Region, featuring over 20 Official Tulip and Attraction/Partner Sites along a 15km Tulip Route through Ottawa and Gatineau. The Canadian Tulip Festival is the largest tulip festival in the world.

I LOVE tulips! Wish I could see them with you. One year I took my mom to the Tulip Festival in Holland, MI. It was lovely!
Have fun!
Agnes,
Never tried walking with clogs. Are they more comfortable than they look?
Every spring more than 3 million tulips bloom in Ottawa’s parks and along Ottawa’s roadways. Many of these tulips were a gift to Ottawa from Queen Juilana of the Netherlands (Holland). During World War II, Juliana and her daughters lived in Ottawa. It was not safein Holland because the Germans had taken over the country. When Juliana returned to her country in 1945, she sent the city 100 000 (onehundred thousand) tulip bulbs to say thank you to Canada. Canada had given her ahome during the war and had also helped to free her country from the Germans. Every year since her return to Holland, Queen Juliana has sent Ottawa 15 000 (fifteen thousand) more tulip bulbs. These beautiful tulips inspired the CanadianTulip Festival held annually in Ottawa.
Karen,
Don't despair, I'll be taking my camera along tomorrow. Too bad we don't have scratch & sniff Internet technology tho ... yet! :)
My crocuses and hyacinths are gone, the narcissus and daffodils are finished, my tulips are past their prime, the iris are coming into full bloom, and my peonies have huge buds...and it's only the beginning of May. I always used to know when it was June, because the peonies bloomed then, along with its neighboring Blaze Rose, making a wonderful display and would knock you over with sweet aroma...but it's only May, and Early May at that!
So much for global warming. Nah.
(POTUS should come visit my garden).

*singing*
.....when May is rushing over you with desire
to be part of the miracles you see in every hour
you'll know it's true, that you are blessed and lucky
it's true, that you are touched by something
that will grow and bloom in you....
sorry....got caught up in the moment...:o

Delightfully warm today in our neck of the woods. I went out for a walk at lunchtime (mistake) and am quite bummed that I need to stay in my cubicle the rest of the day.

May here in central NY is right on time. I can tell because every year I would cut lilacs for mom on Mothers day. They would always be at the end of their season of two weeks. Well they've opened and the aroma is enrapturing. My parents have about ten lilac bushes spread around the back yard, one of them is directly up the walk from the driveway toward the back door. so after getting out of your car you walk about fifty feet and make a right turn and POOOOOOOOF you are engulfed in the sweet smell of springtime. it is on of the best ways to end a day of work and begin a day at homey home

Lilacs are one of my favourites too Hoops. Unfortunately, being out among all the trees and flowers yesterday has given me some painfully raw sinuses this morning, so maybe in a way it's good we don't have that scratch & sniff Internet technology yet.

I am envious! They look beautiful.
I adore lilacs! I get that honestly, because my mother also loves them. When I was a kid there was an older couple who lived next door to us, and their house was on the corner. Across the little side street was a small dry cleaners with an apartment in the back, and they had a rather large lilac bush in the back yard by the street. Each spring Joe (the sweet old man) would cross the street and "swipe" an armload of lilacs for my mom. Joe passed on many years ago and the dry cleaners is now a residence. Each spring I am tempted to drive over there and ask the people who live there if I can "steal" some lilacs for my mom.
I have no lilac bushes of my own (yet), but a few years ago I discovered a lone bush on one of the local roads, so I visit it with my clippers, and my house is very fragrant for a few days. Maybe it's the "stolen" aspect of the flowers that make them smell so sweet! BTW, this year I could tell that someone else had helped themselves to "my" lilac bush!
You're welcome Karen. That lilac pic is actually many years old, but since I am suffering from a massive alergy attack being out at the tulip gardens yesterday, I don't dare go near any more new blooming anythings.
Last week, my boyfriend Jimmy and I visited the Canadian War Museum on Monday, the Museum of Science and Technology on Wednesday, and the Dow’s Lake flower gardens for the Canadian Tulip festival on Friday. It was all rather nice, but Friday night my throat felt sore and raw, and now it seems that I picked up a cold virus somewhere on all those outings, something I managed to avoid all of the Winter. So, although I feel lousy today (weak, achey, coughing and sneezing), I guess that’s a pretty good track record overall.
Rather than resort to a manufactured cough suppressant, I'm trying a new home remedy: hot orange juice with lemon and sugar and chopped garlic! Mmm. LOL
Actually, it doesn't taste as awful as it sounds. :p
Not allergies but a head-cold
That's good. A head-cold will go away. Allergies however, are repetitions in misery.

I believe you. It doesn't sound all that bad to me. (hmm, maybe for breakfast, before going to work?? :D ) Maybe if you replace the sugar with honey, it's even good for your throat.
Get well soon!

Dee, you may want to try some elderberry tea to make that cold go away. Works perfectly for me!
(Still trying to discover some anti-allergy tea, haven't succeeded so far. )

I thought of that too Eva, only I had none and wasn't feeling well enough to go get some. In any case, the home remedy brew seems to have helped. I got to sleep last night without waking up every hour, and I'm feeling well enough this morning to actually venture out of my apartment ... first time since Friday!
Somebody cover me.
