apparently now gay marriage is a threat to world peace...what the...?

Vatican City) Pope Benedict XVI in his first public address of 2008 to the faithful called same-sex marriage a threat to world peace.
The leader of the world's 1.1 billion Roman Catholics called for support of traditional families made up of a union between a man and a woman and he condemned what he called attempts to undermine the traditional family unit.
"I wanted to shed light on the direct relationship that exists between the family and peace in the world," the Pope said.
"The family is the primary agent of peace and the negation or even the restriction of rights of the family ... threatens the very foundations of peace."
It was his second attack on same-sex couples in three days.
On Sunday addressing a crowd in St Peter's Square from his apartment window at the Vatican, he said that support for anything less than the traditional family unit was disrupting society. (story (http://365gay.com/Newscon07/12/123007pope.htm))
His remarks, in both Italian and Spanish, were carried by satellite and telecast to a rally in a public square in Madrid where thousands of Catholics were protesting against Spain's two year old gay marriage law.
In Spanish the Pope said that the family is "based on the unbreakable union of man and woman and represents the privileged environment where human life is welcomed and protected from the beginning to its natural end."
The remarks were greeted with a massive cheer.
"It is worthwhile to work for the family and marriage because it is worthwhile to work for the human being, the most precious being created by God," he said.
Spain legalized same-sex marriage in 2005, Italy has been mulling civil partnership legislation.
Italian Prime Minister Romano Prime Minister supports civil partnerships, but legislation has bogged down in Parliament where the right-of-center opposition has vowed to defeat it.

Yeah, the 'basic family' is such a bastion of world peace...that's why they keep sending their sons to war. Bah.

They're all whackos. Probably 75% of priests and nuns have sought sanctury in the church to avoid their sexuality. Aaaah, religion - the bastion of peace and goodwill - bullshit. :D

With a few more adjectives and exclamation points, this could easily be a communique from the Taliban.

What if Jesus Were Gay?
Ian Gurvitz | Bio

Though I never read The DaVinci Code, my understanding is that it was about some double secret Vatican cult dispensing an albino hit man to terminate with extreme prejudice anyone who might have proof that Jesus was married, had a kid, and descendants living in France. Or something like that. All that fuss and murder over one non-immaculate conception. Imagine how many people would have to be smoked if it turned out there was proof Jesus was gay.

And there is ample evidence. He didn't have a kid. He was in his 30s and didn't even have a girlfriend. He had one female BFF -- a whore. (Maybe history's first fag hag.) He wore a Caftan, hung out with 12 guys, had long flowing hair, kissed a guy in a garden, and felt alienated, even forsaken, by his father. He talked about loving one's neighbor, but cleverly didn't specify the sex of that neighbor. He talked about having compassion for people. Most of the gay guys I know are very compassionate people. And upon getting a sense of his impending death, did he go out and get wasted? Gamble? Get laid? Buy a fast camel and tear up the desert? No. He threw a dinner party for his 12 guy friends.

It's all there in the book. You don't even have to crack the code. But it's still ok. Even if Jesus were gay, it wouldn't make him a bad person. It would make him the same good person, who wasn't attracted to women. Makes you wonder why more Christians don't get that. Though it does clear up quite a bit. Like the Haggards and Craigs of the world. It's a very neat little syllogism: These guys are true Christians; these guys are gay; ergo, true Christians are gay. QED. (Or maybe it's: gay people are true Christians?) Either way, it certainly explains the pope's outfit.

And if that weren't proof enough, there's the First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale, which recently spent $1.3 million on its annual Christmas pageant, with veteran Broadway choreographers directing the moves of 600 dancers. According to the church's senior pastor and show's executive producer Larry Thompson: "I think Jesus would come to the show [and say], 'Authentically you got it right." Ok... Though I don't exactly remember a chorus line in the manger, and I do wonder if Jesus might have suggested using the $1.3 million to feed the poor instead of mounting a glitzy Vegas-style passion play, when it comes to the interpretation and understanding of religion in this country, I guess we have to allow for some creative license.

Have an absolutely fabulous Christmas.

Dear Sir:

Families are families. Where there is love, there is no threat to the status quo. So try to relax now.

Do you ever read the Bible? If you did, you would find that Jesus of Nazareth said not one word against homosexuals, homosexuality, or homosexual unions.

And while I'm on the subject of biblical accuracy vs manmade nonsense, allow me to introduce you to an important lesson Jesus taught his followers. (You are a follower of Jesus are you not? Sometimes it's hard to tell.)

From the book of Matthew, Chapter 19

The Rich Young Man

Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?"

"Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments."

"Which ones?" the man inquired.

Jesus replied, "'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honour your father and mother,' and 'love your neighbour as yourself.'"

"All these I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?"

Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

Thank you for your attention to this important matter. I trust you will be selling off your obscene wealth and adjusting your lifestyle in the near future, and will think twice before you make false and evil-minded declarations to your congregation again.

ladies and gentlemen please,
yeah the head apple has a bunch of big ole brown spots, still there are those in tha barrel that are fresh and whole. i know some rotten apples and i know so good fresh lifegiving apples too. it's the same with our government, just because the lead apple stink of rot, doesn't mean all americans do. there have been popes who have "lost their jobs" for reasons of rottenness, there even was a female pope in the 2nd or 3rd century, who didn;t get caught for about 2 years...she did well till she got caught. i ask that we consider all the apples before throwing out the whole barrel. for peace sake. as far as i can see, being the catholic that i am, this pope has done very little of any good since taking office. i think we need the cardinals to flock to the vatican again and do a recount. and i think i must point out that the last pope actually asked that people love homosexuals...yes he also said love the sinner hate the sin, BUT, asking his community to love us, was probably the biggest step towards acceptance EVER. that is something to be noted. just my thoughts

If I recall correctly, of the entire College of Cardinals, there were two who were generally considered to be out of the running for Pope due to their age. Benedict was one of the two. So much for the oddsmakers.

My belief since his election has been that, since John Paul II, for all his faults, altered the church (and the world) far more in 25 years than the papacy or any entity one cares to name has ever managed to do in a century or more, the cardinals believed him to be an impossible act to follow. So....they elected a fellow who wouldn't be likely to be in office long and who wasn't likely to have any huge agendas.

The next Pope will be someone very different. But will he be another progressive leader? Or will he lead the Church back into the bad old days? There are Cardinals who fall on both sides of the coin.

John Paul II, a native of Poland, was elected during the coldest days of the Cold War--I believe that was a very calculated political move on the part of those who elected him. What if it happens again? What if, for example, the next Pope is a Cardinal from Lebanon? What then?

I find the present pontiff a great disappointment, but some rather interesting things may well lie in the relatively near future.

Benedict may well be just a passing wind, but all the more reason not to make such irrational declarations and spread impossible lies. I would think he’d want to leave a better legacy behind than this hateful idiotic nonsense. Same-sex marriage is a threat to world peace? He must be out of his head.

And Hoops, I have friends who are Catholic and they too would agree about this pope. I for one was not referring to Catholics per se.
