Janis Ian's Birthday

Let's plan a party here on the board, and think of something really nice to do in honor of Janis this year. Something like all pitching in a buck to the Pearl in Janis' honor, or doing something nice for our community in her honor.... Not that we need a special day to honor Janis, but it would be fun to plan and think about! Any ideas?

The Mary Chapin Carpenter group picks a charity every year. One person volunteers to record donation amounts that members of the discussion group email to say they have contributed. It's very informal and always heartwarming.

Eva Cassidy fans make use of a link to Amazon on the main Eva website. A very small portion of payments of orders made to Amazon using this access link are send annually to a charity. Lots of very small amounts have really added up over the years.

And something which has become a sort of Janis Ian birthday "tradition" now is that people make a donation to The Pearl Foundation (http://pearlfoundation.com/pearl-janisnote.html) in an amount equal to her age that year. (She talks about this on one of the JanisMania DVDs.)

I think anything a person does will be appreciated by Janis and those that benefit from the good works of the Pearl Foundation... I would however suggest that a simple Happy Birthday and thank you publicly would be best... but those that can afford to and choose to donate should by all means do so and feel good about it... After all no good deed goes unpunished!!!!
