Can't hurt to try, I suppose. Assuming you are talking about a keyboard for a desktop, you're not risking much....

Hoops, if the rubber "plunger" has come off, its toast.
What make and model is the laptop? Many are designed so that the keyboard is easily replaced, and replacements are easily acquired from places like eBay.
Feel free to PM me for help.

Oh, hell. I'm afraid Amy is right, as far as laptop keyboards are concerned.
If in doubt, have someone look at it who can give you a professional opinion as to whether the keyboard can be replaced. Whatever you do, DO NOT, repeat, DO NOT take it to the Geek Squad.

you probably could buy a replacement keyboard and replace it fairly easily. I know you can do that easily on a Dell.
If not, I wouldn't worry. It's not like "E" is a really common letter.

bahahahahahahahah. you've no idea how much i've learned about the use of the letter E in the last three days. as you all can see, i am surviving without the key, i don't know how good that is for my laptop but, i haven't had the time or money to take it in yet. as long as it works....

Noel...
Really... just buy a keyboard on e-bay. You can put it in yourself... 2 screws and 3 minutes. No need to pay someone to do it.
Oh.. and.. if your laptop is still under warranty, you can get the keyboard for free. Did you get the exteneded warrnty with complete care?

One other thing... you can always use an external keyboard. Ask around. Many folks keep an extra and you can probably "borrow" one.

Hi Hoops,
No doubt you'll find a way to sort this out. Look, it's not too hard to post without using it... ;)
Anyway, you did give me a good laugh because you made me remember what one of my uncles did once (and once only). He glued his enter-key back on with a generous amount of superglue. Well, what can I say, it stuck very well. A little too well.
Best wishes for 2008 for all,

that happened to me too. if you were financially stuck as i was when this happened, i got a USB port external keyboard and it did the trick for me for a while, until i was able to get a new laptop. hope that helps.

Hoops,
Same thing happened to me and I found a site on e-bay where I could order a replacement key. I took a picture of the missing key with my cellphone and sent it with my email order, so they knew exactly what part(s) were needed. You may not have to replace the whole keypad. Check out this website:
http://halifax.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-computer-accessories-DELL-IBM-HP-COMPAQ-TOSHIBA-keyboard-Replacement-Key-Service-W0QQAdIdZ11339282
If this site has the make and model of your computer, they can send you the components you need to fix it. I got my key fixed for about $7. Hope this helps.
