I just watched this and thought I'd post some comments.

I continue to be blown away by Janis' comfort in exposing herself in so many different ways. I feel humbled by the fact that I don't seem to have the proper vocabulary to describe how I feel.

The DVD contains a disclaimer and is not for the faint of heart, but if you already love and appreciate Janis' music....as in "I've been regularly listening to Between the Lines since it's release", then it's not to be missed. The sound quality is irregular at best, but some of the performances are magical. "Silly Habits" is worth the price of admission alone.

I was touched by the obvious sense of community that the Rudies expressed and am so jealous that I didn't know about this event when it was going on...I would have been there for sure.

Anna's performance touched me so. What a position to willingly put yourself in! Providing piano accompaniment to Janis, and holding your own. Magical.

Thanks so much to Beth and all of you who made this possible. I'm grateful I got to experience the event, albeit 2 years later.

I'm sure you have exhausted this subject in the former incarnation of the message board, but this is all relatively new for me and I just thought I'd share.

Hi Pesky, glad you enjoyed the DVD. It's funny you should bring that up. My wife and I were doing some spring cleaning the other day, when we came across a postcard written by Beth (and signed by Janis) thanking us for participating in the musical weekend.

I'd forgotten all about that postcard.

It was just the nicest touch (and typical of Beth) to cap off a perfect experience. Naturally that postcard joined the "keeper" pile. :)

Great time, good people...classy Janis.

Pesky! As one of the JanisManiacs, I can vouch for the sense of community that we all felt almost instantaneously, while sweating through the sauna like conditions of June in Indiana. It was a dream come true for all of us, to spend a weekend, not only with our idol, but also with so many like minded people. I'm so glad I have that DVD to help me relive the experience and that others can view it and see what we saw. I was the one pushing the stroopwafels. ;)

Dar, You neglected to also tell Pesky that you won the Indiana Guitar too :)

AND she can play Em....

I wonder how tired Janis is by now of requests to hold Janismania II?

Yes, it was magical - the whole weekend was amazing and hard to believe it was 2 years ago; in some ways it seems like only yesterday! And thank you for the kind words - Ruby will always be a highlight of my life!

Dar I think that's what we all felt during our LRC weekend- we didn't have Janis with us as much as you did, just one afternoon (she stayed 6 hours) then a show the next night- but spending 4 days on a farm with rudies was fantastic- so natural and a real sense of community.

I also felt this when I went to the Netherlands last week.

one more show tonight then that's it till October :(

We love to relive JanisMania! It was a life-changing experience! I got to spend time with someone I've idolized for years (NO, not you, Dar!) and made SO many good friends! It is definitely one of the highlights of my life!

I love watching that DVD! It doesn't make me envious, as I always expect it might, but it does make me a little sad that I missed it. However I'm glad I get to watch it and see it almost as if I was there. It gives me some really good dreams!

Yes, as David UK mentioned, I think we UK LRC people got just a tiny taste of that feeling of community and the feeling of JanisMania. However it definitely gives us a craving for more! I wished I could have stayed, or been there earlier, because I felt like I knew everyone if I could just get the names right!

I'm not sure if I'm the only Maniac who does this, but....no matter how many times I watch the DVD, some event will pass and I'll think "Damn! They cut out....." (Anna taking a bow with Janis after playing "Ruby" comes readily to mind). Can't help but wonder just how much raw footage is out there and if someone might want to someday create a "virtual Janismania". Would probably take 10 disks per copy and who knows how much scanning of video from various people (and of course, Janis' permission), but the result would be a delight.

Sometimes I wonder if Janismania will come to be an event somewhat like Woodstock, where at least 10 times as many people who were there will claim to have been there. However....we've got the pictures!
