At Seventeen

I awoke on my 17th birthday to the sound of Janis's "At Seventeen" playing at full volume on the record player (I won't say how many years ago!) and have been a fan ever since. At Seventeen, In the Winter and Gold Lame & Diamonds are my favourite songs. Janis is a genius lyricist!

Welcome to the message forums. I'm Dee in Canada and there is another Dee on board here who goes by the screen name AceOn6.

I was 16 when At Seventeen was a radio hit. I still recall where I was when I first heard that distinct voice singing it, and how she seemed to be speaking my experience, despite the fact that I was a boy and not a girl.

Fast forward three decades, and I was invited to a live show of hers and got to meet her afterwards. Surreal and incredible, to say the least.

I always hated At Seventeen as I asscoated it with getting ready for school on cold mornings (it was on the radio at breakfast time almost every day).... even when I became a fan of Janis that barrier was still there with 17 lol

30 years later I adore the song- particularly performed live.

As Dar said, do you have any of Janis's more recent albums? If you don't have it, you might like to try "Live - Working Without a Net"...
