So I am checking my Janis Ian Google alerts this morning, and this pops up:

http://www.sundaytribune.co.za/?fSectionId=163&fArticleId=iol1195455146773D352

Now a couple of weeks ago I gave a telephone interview followed by several emails to the Mideast Bureau Chief for a major newspaper chain, on a topic of which I actually have a measure of expertise, and got zippo. But my sage parental advice as the mother of four cats on the JIMB is in the South Africa Sunday Tribune. Go figure.

It is also rather sobering to note that the non-Rudie universe is paying attention to what we are posting. . . Has anyone else had this happen to them?

I’m not surprised, Oak. Privacy and boundaries are non existent on this Internet thing.

Actually, it makes me rather nervous. I guess I will refrain from offering advice on brain surgery. I wouldn't want to be responsible for the outcome in some far corner of the world. . .

Sorry, Gisli,

I am a Dr. of history, so I can only give historical prescriptions. My prescription for improving your brain is to avoid television, most Hollywood productions, and to read lots of good books on a wide range of subjects.

He, he, he, now you will be quoted in some Middle-East newspaper, I can see the headlines: A Dr in history says Hollywood-films gives you incurable braindamage.

Dr in history says Hollywood-films gives you incurable braindamage.

That isn’t news Gisl, except perhaps for those already brain-damaged by them.

So much crap to watch, so little time. :p

Touché, Gisli.

Hi Randy... Here's a link you may find interesting. A friend of mine is getting this up.

http://www.geocities.com/jogreenh/Edinburgh-bells.html

It documents where all the hidden bells are in Edinburgh, and is instrumental in putting together some sort of history and which has a number of very important links within the page....Very useful when it comes to Church History, which fascinates me....

Oak, it's interesting how an opinion on a messageboard somehow becomes an expert opinion when it's quoted in a newspaper.

Eva,

I recall an old expression, "An expert is someone who is from more than fifty miles away." A relic from the pre-mass communications and mass transit era, I suppose. Now we can ALL be experts! Yippee! Just goes to show you - don't believe everything you read. I for one ascribe no credibility to anything I read in the blogosphere - when I read about stuff I do know about - I can't comment on it one way or the other, I can only fume quietly in my little corner.

Anyone who writes a "news" article based on blog posts should be expelled from the journalistic profession. Of course, that assumes that journalism still has some professional standards - a proposition of which I am increasingly dubious.

Oi. If anyone's watching, I am who I am.

Enough said.

But then, sage advice does not generally come from this source... I'm still busy learning from all the mistakes... going around a second time.

:D
