View Full Version : Paul Potts
Well, the Brits must have seen this a million time by now. And maybe some Americans too since the guy was on Oprah. But I think this is so amazing.
Here is this guy. Very shy. Very nervous. Someone who doesn't have the 'required' showbizzlooks. An ordinary guy who sells carphones for a living. He gets on this show called "Britain's got talent" where the winner gets to perform for the queen. It's kind of like Idols, but I guess with a bit more prestige? I don't know because I usually don't watch these shows.
Anyway. he gets on stage and the jury obviously isn't impressed with what they see. There he is, ready to get slaughtered by the jury. And then this happens...

Yeah, great huh?
He has now made his first record. Diamond in the rough was a well chosen term, I think.
I love the juries reaction, how their mouth just falls open. How the woman even starts to cry. First their arrogant bored faced. One can see them thinking "Oh god... another one... and opera... yeah right..." And then them and the audience completely astounded by what they hear.

Bravo! Perhaps one day he will tell the world how he was able to channel Pavarotti. I thought he was charming before the dental work, but that's show business.

I got his cd. Great story; his music is like Andrea Bocelli lite. It's nice.

Well Mixty, if I had teeth like that, and I could afford to fix them I would. :D He obviously can and did. He probably hated the way his teeth looked all his life, so good on him.

I was cruising through my regular daily visited links and I ran onto this the very first day he performed. Somebody posted it at FileCabi.net almost immediately after he performed the first time. Then I waited for a day or so when the followup came out and he won. I'm sure both clips are still there if you want to download them but I'm not sure. I can't imagine that they -wouldn't- be there because of the sheer wonder of them and they have to be quite popular.
To say the least, I was BLOWN - AWAY!

Thanks Paul. Also all these movies are on youtube. Including a sung 'thank you' from Paul for all the youtube viewers. And Paul Potts has his own website. I think he should work a bit more on his pronounciation; it still sounds very English sometimes. But it looks like he is working hard on it.
It's very good to see that someone with a talent gets discovered. That it's not just about hyping someone who just looks right for chartsongs. Shows like X-factor and Idols are usually about hyping, I think. Pity... A few years back I saw and heard a woman do a song by Jacques Brel at a talentshow on television. Way before Idols etc. It was the most beautiful version of that particular song I have ever heard. I had a big lump in my throat. Unfortunately I have never heard from her again.
I hope Paul will be able to stay out of the claws of dishonest businessmanagers etc. He seems like such a nice man who only wants to sing and none of all that businesshassle. Maybe he or someone he can trust ar good at doing business. I hope so.

Most impression. And a wonderful warning against falling into the all-too-common 21st century practice of judging a book by its cover.

Wow, forget about Bubbles, as entertaining as he is and even if he sounds like Michael Jackson. Look at this guy.....Paul Potts, he has had no training in opera singing and he walks out of nowhere and into the limelight...with that amazing voice.....Somebody give this guy singing lessons in opera.
Compare his voice with this guy who has had opera training all his life they are just about the same age, give or take a decade or two.
