I am sitting here, supposed to be writing an essay for college, when I hear on the radio, BBC radio 4 no less, the people who use Facebook are posher than those who use Myspace, so I decide I have to look at this.

Anyway after a short search I discover... (whisper this) ... that Janis has a page! http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=65201273

Yep music a blog and all. How disappointed am I.

I feel it is my duty to pass this on to you, you are my friends, right?

But then I discover the really disappointing thing - I have a page....

I had better get back to my essay...

Myspace and Facebook. Myspace I check about once a month. Facebook I check almost every day. College friends decided to get me into Facebook for event coordinating and such... So... I'm on.

I have a MySpace page, but can't for the life of me figure out how to set the homepage up nicely as so many do. So it's just a boring old page featuring me on my motorcycle.

A fair number of well-known folks seem to have MySpace pages, especially musicians. I am "friends" with a number, who regularly send tour schedules, announcements, and things of the sort. Quite handy if your favorites are on the service....besides, it's kinda cool getting an e-mail allegedly from Paul McCartney.

I have never understood the 'friends' thing. What is it for and why?

I love the Friends thing on Facebook- where most of my friends are friends in real life. They are mainly friends who live abroad or people I had lost contact with years ago and who have either found me or I found them really easily through Facebook- I have managed to link up again after losing contact more than 10 years ago in some cases. Facebook is really clever in that respect, and for me, someone who has moved around lots from city to city and country to country that is a very valuable feature of Facebook. It's also a really nie way of seeing what people are up to, sharing photos etc.

MySpace I find useful for keeping track of what some of my favourite artists are doing- about 2/3 of my "friends" there are not actually friends as such, just favourite artists whose profile I have linked to mine.
