Rotterdam harbour to be shut due to storm (http://uk.reuters.com/article/oilRpt/idUKL0886637620071108)
Thu Nov 8, 2007
AMSTERDAM, Nov 8 (Reuters) - Ship traffic to and from Rotterdam harbour is expected to be suspended from 2000 GMT due to an approaching storm, a port spokesman said on Thursday.
The suspension is expected to remain in place until 1700 GMT on Friday. The spokesman said roughly 60 ships would be affected.
For the first time since its construction in the 1990s, a storm surge barrier protecting Rotterdam and its harbour is expected to be closed due to the approaching storm.
The barrier has previously only been shut for testing.
The spokesman said the barrier was expected to close at 2200 GMT.

Batten down the hatches!
I hope all goes well.
Personally, I love a good storm, and we really had a good one when the tail end of a tropical storm hit us, here, last Saturday. It gave awesome sound effects to our Haunted House, too.
But the next morning I saw that a huge, heavy booth type thing (with maps of the town and university) had been knocked over and the roof of it had come off. I silently hoped no one had been out for this, because personally I knew that if that had been knocked over, so would most people be knocked over. Or worse, would have had such heavy objects blown into them.
That was quite a night. It wrecked one of my windows (not the glass, but one of the bars on it) and I still need to figure out who to ask to get that fixed.
So, good luck with your storm! I suspect yours is even bigger! Take care!

Well, I better don't go to school by bike tomorrow morning - I'm only 50 kilometres from the Dutch border. It will hit us, too - only a little bit later.

As I might havve told you, the office that I work in is placed on a floating base. Maybe tomorrow morning it will have drifted off to sea, who knows... :D
But seriously... Closing down the harbour equals a big economical loss. I am sure that decision wasn't taken lightly. It must mean the storm that is coming this way is huge. I do hope it won't become too bad... At this moment it's luckily still allright. Rain and wind, but nothing out of the ordinairy for november.

No worries fellow rudies, tonights storm will be a normal autumn one. Just one of those that will come around every year about this time.
But ... there is a guy named Pier Corbijn who predicted this storm about a month ago and he's right on this one ...
The problem is he predicted that a super storm will hit Holland between November 24-28th with winds going over 200 km/h as well ...

I was planning on a walk on the beach tomorrow... :D Oh well, we'll see. I love a good storm too, Song!
My office was still in the same place
Not good enough Thor, not good enough!
Eva
So far it's only wind - no storm over here in Germany and blue sky, clouds and rain in an April like mixture.
