No matter how thorough you might try to brand disagreement as disloyalty, Mr Bush, there are still people like Daniel Levin who believe in the United States of America as true freedom, where we are better not because of schemes and wars, but because of dreams and morals. And ultimately, sir, these men, these patriots will defeat you and they will return this country to its righteous standards, and to its rightful owners: The People.

So, we all know he speaks the truth. And we all know that the government under Bush is totally corrupt. And we all know that (supposedly) We the People are the government.
Then why isn't someone, anyone, doing something besides idly ranting and tirading? Why isn't Impeachment on the table? Why hasn't someone callled the Hague and demanded a trial that would possibly result in justice being done? What is the problem here? I just don't understand it.

bat,
you pose interesting questions, ones that make me wonder what this" democrats in gov't V, bush" is all about. is it all just a politcal game used to win over the nation. it's easy to take the side of the dem's against Bush when all they say is so easily seen to be true. but are they, like G. W. just putting on an act? never planing to do anything about the major injustice that has been the presidency for so many year? I have every faith that we, the citizens have done our hollering and writing and begging for a change, while the ones we beg have no intention of changing, but every intention of making us believe that they are. i don;t know, i just don't know

Kucinich -did- introduce (again) impeachment procedures against Cheney and for whatever reason it was the republicans that wanted to push it into debate stage but it was the democrats that shot it down! Now how screwy is THAT? I do NOT understand that.
In defense of the democrats they didn't get in there this time by a landslide and they only hold the slimmest of margins of control. The republicans -do- keep shooting them down at almost every opportunity. The -are- trying but without an overwhelming majority they're rowing in mud so to speak. This bit the other day though..... I dunno.... That is quite beyond me.

Quite simple really, Paul. If the Democrats had proceeded along Kucinichs lines, the fact that every single one of them agreed that Iraq was a threat as far back as 1996 would have been brought up, held to public scrutiny and raked through the mud again. far easier to kick it to the house judiciary commitee where it will likely die a slow and most importantly...quiet death.

Every time present-day politics are discussed, I keep hearing the old Barry Commoner commercial that was censored in most radio markets:
"Bullsh*t! Carter, Reagan, and Anderson--it's all Bullsh*t."
Then again, I've often wondered if Anderson would have been an interesting President.

All of which points out -exactly- why I choose not to affiliate myself with any one party. There are good and bad in -all- parties and I want the ability to choose the best from anywhere as I so choose and see fit.

I think one of the major obstacles to anyone "doing anything" is the inevitable question: "do WHAT?" If there was one policy or politician which would change anything if enacted/elected or repealed/voted out of office, who or what would it be? And what would be accomplished?
The unfortunate fact is that our system is so shot through with corruption that removing ANYONE from office would almost certainly take a corrupt official out of a position of power. But he or she would be almost immediately replaced by someone equally bad waiting in the wings.
Think about it for a moment: if one of the aircraft hijacked on 9/11 had crashed into the Capitol and annihilated most or all of Congress, what would be different now?
The only thing I can think of is that we might not have gone to war with Iraq. Then again, the bad information was out there and those who used it would have still been there. And chances are they would have used it in the very same way.
If we are to take back our country, the best chance we have is to do so by living our own lives if we see fit. If some harmless activity you wish to pursue violates a law or ordinance or what have you--do it anyway (especially if you know you can get away with it). When your kids get the information from the Army Recruiter at the school--tell them what it's all really about and call the school to complain. To whatever extent possible, do not be part of "the system". Lose that credit card debt and do all your business with cash and money orders. If you can make money without reporting it to the IRS, do so. Maintain your "nest egg", if you have one, in precious metals--the dollar is taking a nosedive and the lower it goes, the less true value our politicians will have to play with. It is possible to opt out of the Social Security system. If you aren't relying on it for retirement, get out now and invest the money elsewhere (in precious metals or a foreign bank account). If you are relying on Social Security....God help you.
When the majority of authorities in this country discover that the only power they truly have is the power to call people names (how many of you out there have altered your behavior because you were afraid of being called "unpatriotic", "liberal", or lord knows what?), perhaps we'll start to see some change. When people on Capitol Hill find they have no choice but to start removing the various efforts of the Bush Administration because they can't pay for them any more, we'll see change.
Remember that laws are only as good as those who obey them. American history is full of unlawful activities which magically became legal after it became obvious that they were being ignored. See Prohibition, licenses for CB radios, most motorcycle helmet laws, and the fate of any politician who publicly calls for a ban on abortions.
It does not have to stop there.
