Wow, what a woman! I know, I know, you already knew that :p Tonight's show in Amsterdam was amazing. Janis sang close to perfection, she was witty, interacted wonderfully with the audience. I finally got to meet David & Anne (you guys are awesome!), Gísli & Kata and Geula. A well spent evening, I'd say. Too tired to write more (it's 1:15 AM here), pics will follow later.

It's after 2.30 am here and I have to get up at 7.30 am, so I'll keep it short...

WOW!

Too short? Okay... The evening was magical. Janis seemed to have a good time on stage. The audience was enchanted. Janis was very funny, and what a voice!

My birthdaysurprise was wonderful: Anne from Manchester was there and she and DavidUK greeted me dressed up as Pirates. :D They gave me the outfit later. Also I got cards (with shoes on them...) signed by everyone and I got a little Kali statue from Margay. Very pretty.

To make sure Janis would recognise me I wore the piratehat. I hereby declare that it was David's and Anne's idea! *serious face* Janis must have thought I'm a lunatic... but she signed my CD to the Pirate Queen. Isn't that lovely!?

Best part of my evening was that Janis said: "How nice to finally meet you." That got me blushing. Oh, and I dared to ask for a handshake this time. (and got it!) A hug is still a bit scarey. Maybe next time...

Afterwards Marg, her mother, Anne, Geula & me had a drink. I fell asleep in the train dreaming of this concert (The Pirate Queen snored loudly) What an evening. What a performer!

WOW!

PS: I brought a present for Janis: tulipbulbs for her garden. She was sniffing at the package and looking at it from all sides as if she was thinking: "No stroopwafels!!??" :D

Either that or she read the State Department Advisory about not accepting unmarked packages from anyone in Amsterdam.

Will she be allowed to bring the tulipbulbs into the States? Isn't there some advisory about live plants not being allowed into countries (not just the States), or is that just for items from my part of the world?

I didn't have to get up early, but I did anyway (Janis, how do you do this?!). I'll start reorganising the place to be able to have you guys over tonight :p
Don't bounce around at work, my Pirate Queen, you'll scare your crew ;) :D

Ah, yes it was amazing, Janis was amazing, Janis IS amazing!

Meeting so many rudies was wonderful too.

I am still too flabbergasted to write a review that says anything more than ´great´, ´fantastic´and ´amazing´. Pictures will follow soon.

Marg(ay)

PS. Mom says it was nice meeting you all and she really enjoyed the show. She used to listen to Janis when she was my age (she never should have stopped!) and she now has this theory that I must like Janis so much because I must have heard her music all the time from the womb. Either that or it is just great music!

Thank you Janis, it was a wonderful evening in all respects. Thank you especially for singing Watercolours, and thanks to all the other member of the audience who also shouted "Jesse" for the second encore! I floated back to my hotel last night, both songs on my wish list AND a meeting a new bunch of Rudies.

To all the Dutch Rudies thank you for making David and I so welcome, it really felt like we were with old friends. You guys have a great time tonight.

To Yann (if Janis would be so kind) Thank You for your "Jeassus!" exclamation half way through the day! You definitely made mine and David's afternoon a perfect one! (And Janis, thank you again for signing the contents of the parcel).
Off to Amsterdam Central station now to meet my beloved.
Anne :)

Dear fellow Pirates Redjack & Jenny!

Redjack: YES, there are pictures. Soon... very soon...
Jenny: Janis was wearing jeans with gemstones on her left leg. Please wait with robbing her of them untill the end of her tour. (The gemstones aren't real, so I won't be needing them)

It was a really great show. My wife Conny, who isn't a fan, agreed that with me!! We enjoyed Janis and of course to meet the others: some of them from Holland I had met before, some I knew only from the MB: Corita, David, Geulah and Gisli (all the way from Iceland!). Unfortunately we could not say goodbye to everyone, because it was late and we wanted to get back home. We looked for David and Gisli but could not find them. But I hope I will see them some other time!
Now I wait till October (Alkmaar and of course the LRC on the 14th!).

It was a great show. Janis thank you ever so much!!!!!

It was a magical concert with Janis, she amazed us with several songs from older albums that we've liked. I (Rikki) had got three (!) kisses :p from Janis for giving her flowers. Also we have met Eva! It is always great to meet other Janis fans! We had travelled all the way from Antwerp to Amsterdam!
We even want to travel many more miles just to see and hear our loveley Janis. And now to the next concerts in Belgium and Holland.... Hope time flies!
Love and hugss, Anita & Rikki

I had a great time as well. Started with meeting Anne and David around 5pm at Anne's hotel, then we went for some food, drink and chat before we would meet the other Rudies at the theater. Anne gave me the UK LRC dvd and her husband Mike did a great job putting a booklet together with pictures from all of us. We walked to the Kleine Komedie and met all the other people mentioned before, it was fun because David and Anne dressed up as pirates to surprise Eva!!

The concert was great, Janis had fun and laughed a lot.
Here's the setlist:

From me to you
Danger danger
Crocodilesong
Love is blind
Society's child
Fly too high (with singalong)
I hear you sing again

After intermission
Tea and sympathy
Here comes the night
Watercolors
Old American folksong (written last week ;) )
The great divide
My autobiography
At seventeen
Between the lines

Encore 1 Joy
Encore 2 Jesse

After the concert I had some more stuff signed and Janis asked if I was looking forward to my living room concert next October. DUH YEH :D

After that David and I went to the trainstation and almost missed the last train back home. We watched the UK LRC dvd when we got home and got to bed at 3.30am (only an half hour before Janis was supposed to get up to get the ferry back to the UK :D )

We got up around 10-10.30 had some breakfast and coffee and watched another Janis dvd. Then I took David into the city (the oldest in the Netherlands, last year we celebrated our 2000 anniversery), did some siteseeing, got up into a tower, had a drink at a terras because the weather was nice.

Then we took the train to Utrecht to arrive there around 4pm and we went to Agnes place. We helped her somewhat with her preparing dinner for a bunch of Rudies. Margay arrived around 7.30 and I had to leave around 9.30. When I was at the trainstation I met Eva who was on her way to Agnes place. I'm sure they had fun together :)

David is staying at Agnes for the night and fly back to the UK tomorrow

Eva

Yes, it was fun indeed with Agnes, David and Margay. I was quite late because I went home for a shower and clean clothes. Plundering and having swordfights all day do make one smell bad, you see. And I confess: I allowed myself 30 minutes of shoeshopping...

David is as sweet as his chihuahua avatar makes you believe he is. Because I was so late today we hardly had the opportunity to spend some time speaking Hungarian together. Hopefully next time... :)

The food Agnes (and Marjan! had made) was absolutely delicious! Redjack, Dar, if you ever meet Agnes, make her cook for you. Her spaghetti! Her fruitsalad! Her caramel! And all the other tasty things she had made. I can only come up with one logical question after this:

Agnes, will you marry me!? :D

My friend Emmy, not really a fan till then, came with me to the show. On our way back home she told me she'd had such a wonderful time, enjoyed Janis so much and was soooooooo happy I kept nagging she'd come :D Rudie material, I'd say ;)

I've been howling with laughter on the Old American Folk Song, Janis, it's brilliant! On the other side of the spectrum I Hear You Sing Again just made me cry silently. Joy (I was hoping for that one) left me with a smile Emmy usually calls my 'soul's smile'. Janis, thank you so much for an absolutely wonderful night, for your very kind words and for signing my shirt! It's been another night to remember :)

Janis does look wonderful on those pictures. (Jenny, have you noticed 'the pants'!???) I especially like the one where she is smiling to the people on the balcony. I had a feeling that she was having a good time too. And I am very happy for that.

David, you'll do fine as a Pirate. For all that plundering and fighting you'll maybe need to be a little less of a sweet guy and... ah, forget it. Please stay as you are. You'll be the first huggable Pirate ever!

Redjack, this 'nutfile' thing has been on my mind too. I am a bit worried here... Do you really think I'm in it now...?

The piratepictures are fun! We had a good time too. Doesn't Anne look pretty with a piratehat? And I was trying to look dangerous. I see I didn't succeed completely...

I do think we've room in the Brethren for two more Pirates, would be a shame not to take you on after such a fine display of ....welll.. after such a display anyway..

Therefore, by the powers i've given myself over the years, i welcome Manchester Anne , and Uk David into the brethren of the coast. You are now pirate initiates with all the rank and privelage that comes with.. Welcome aboard!

Eva, as far as Nutfiles.. nahh.. yer in the almost nutfile. thats where all the fun people area, i think most of the board is in that one, and Randy Pa is the king of the almost nutfile. Now we must discuss 'pretty pirates' , while i will admit that Anne is quite adorable in her pirate hat, thats not gonna serve us well when we grapple 'longside a fat merchantman and go to board her.. no room for cute then.. We'll work on her dangerous look since she does not yet have the reputation that the Queen of Pirates posesses.

I don't know Captain Redjack... One can be pretty AND dangerous... Then again, being able to look mean and dangerous is a thing all Pirates need to be able to do. How about we set up a Pirateschool where we teach new Pirates these neccesary trades? You can teach them and I'll boss them around. How about it?

Indeed.. quite a long way to go before he becomes the scourge of the seven seas.. Therefore, I bestow the name Dashing David upon this pirate initiate.. Would be a shame to suppress this much cuteness, so we'll just roll with it. And for the love of davey jones, find the man a proper hook! That one is far too shiny.. needs blood stains and rust... rust to properly infect those wounds he'll be making.

We'll have to see what kinda Pirate Anne makes before we bestow a name on her.. Me thinks that beneath that soft and kind exterior lurks the heart of a warrior..

I just got home too. Wasn't Queen's Day a blast? I wish we had such celebrations in the UK.
The whole country gets the day off to celebrate the Queen's birthday. EVERYONE wears orange, and people are allowed to sell their 'treasures' on the street. We watched in amazement as the canals filled up with boats crammed with people dressed in orange, lots of loud music and party food.
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d63/Million68/canal1.jpg http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d63/Million68/canal2.jpg
There was dancing throughout the night and all the next day, but then the morning afterwards everything is gone, cleaned away.
What a wonderful example of good project management.
It was great to meet you and your wife Gisli, and my hubby has a hat just like yours!

The whole country gets the day off to celebrate the Queen's birthday.

Ehm... technically it's not the queen's birthday. Well, it is but not THIS queen's (Beatrix) birthday. Her birthday is on January 31. Her mother however (Juliana) who was queen before Beatrix had her birthday on April 30th. Because the weather is usually too awful for a celebration at the end of January and because April 30 as Queensday has become such a tradition, we still celebrate Queensday on this date.

The next one on the throne will probably be Willem-Alexander. He will be king. His birthday is on April 28th, I believe. So I guess he will also hold on to April 30 as the day to celebrate. I don't know if it will still be called Queensday then... There were three generations of queens before him, so I guess he won't touch that tradition (I hope) Besides, he also has two daughters, so after him there will probably be a queen again.

This year Queensday wasn't celebrated on April 30 but on April 29. The royal family is (as an institution in any case) very religious. A celebration on Sunday is not allowed. Therefor the celebration was moved to a day earlier, which was a Saturday. Next year Queensday will be on a weekday again, I hope. Then we'll all get a day off. Yay!

In any case, I am very glad you had such a good time Anne. I hope you and your wife had a good time too, Gisli. In spite of the technomusic. I don't like it much myself. I escaped to the beach. That was nice.

Eva, you're so at home with a cutlass in your hand!

I want to post this about the Amsterdam concert even if it is a late arrival.

Die Kleine Theater is a good theater with comfortable seats and a good view to the stage wherever you sit. The theater was packed with people from the age that ranged from 16 to 17+ and there was excitement in the air, people talked and laughed while they waited. The stage was simple, on it a small table and a guitar.
The light dimmed and people started to settle down, there was still some humming in the air when the first tones from a guitar was heard in a distance, suddenly silence fell to the theater.............and from the left side of the stage........came Janis Ian, with smile on her face, people started to applause and hoorays and bravos exploted into the air in such a way that the roof went off the house and never came back on after that. From that moment the house was hers.
Janis seemed to have a lot of fun, she was relaxed, confident and beautiful as ever, in short....sparkling with joy and being herself....

After the concert Kata said: "There goes a woman with a strong personality." My wife was impressed.

For a wonderful and unforgetable concert, thank you Janis.

To all you Rudies I met before the show, it was fantastic to meet you...Jan De Vries and Conny I hope we will meet soon again here in my country, you are always welcome to our house. And Geula you who came all the way from Israel, you´re right, you really are right, you are redhaired and always smiling. It was an honour to meet you and please let´s continue to be in touch. To all other Rudies I met, Marjan, Margay, Anna, David, Eva, Agnes and rest I don´t mention but met, let´s be in touch and thank you all for a great time.
