Here are a couple links that explain a little bit about Dia de los Muertos for those who are interested in finding out more about my favorite Mexican holiday!
The first link you can click on the different subjects...

The second link is really cool, you can see an altar being made in honor of singer, Barry White!

My most favorite part is:
"In Mexico, death is something to be celebrated. Skeleton dolls and toys are made for living children to play with. Thus, the child's first acquaintance with death is a cheerful one.
-- The Day of the Dead, The Heard Museum"
Beautiful teachings "death is something to be celebrated......the child's first acquaintance with death is a cheerful one."
What better way to teach a child than to not fear death.
Peace, Darlene
First time I read about Dia de los Muertos was in Hayden Herreras biography of Frida Kahlo and I kept it in my mind.
And some years ago I was in Rome on November 1st and 2nd and was really amazed about the thousands and thousands of people who went to the wonderful old cemetary not only to comemorate their dead loved ones but to meet friends, to eat and drink together, to stay there for hours. I went there with a friend and her family to visit the grave of their youngest daughter. I had expected it to be a very sad occasion but it was way of a celebration of life, including the dead family member.

Andrea, I love your altar of Laura Nyro. I saw Laura in Concert (circa 1970's) at Vassar College (NY) She was absolutely wonderful! She was musically very versatile. It was one of the most memorable concerts I have ever been to. (of course, besides Janis) Cool!
