My sister Pat and I both use Norton AV - I'm using Norton 360 (which John was kind enough to give me,) mainly because of the restore function. I confess that despite the great reviews, I'm not thrilled with it - cumbersome, does more than I need, etc etc. But I've always had good luck with Norton's AV, so I'm sticking with it. Janis uses 360 as well, and seems to agree with me.
Pat is using straight up Norton AV, and it works fine EXCEPT that there's a legal site she goes to that doesn't like Norton AV. Keeps giving her a javascript error, but the site's web person says most people using Norton have the same problem.
I told her to try turning off the AV for 15 minutes, and it got weird; she could get into the docs on that site, but not on the other legal site (that was fine before.)

So... she's thinking of moving from Norton to something else. Any suggestions? Cost is not an issue - reliability and error-free are.

Thanks all!

I'm a Norton/Symantec user myself, mainly because it uswed to be the best out there and I get it for no cost because we use it at the college.

If the folks on the legal site know that Norton users have problems, they ought to fix it!

She might try using a different browser for that site.. if she's using IE, try Firefox. It seems pretty odd that Norton would be causing Javascript errors, but stranger thigs have happened. We do see al lot of problems with Java based web apps and the Google toolbar, most notably the main administrative app we use at the college.

Make sure Windoes is up to date, including the optional update for Root Certificates....

Go with a product that is NOT one of the "biggies" like Norton/Symantec, McAfee, Kaspersky, etc. etc. The reason is because the virus writers create their monsters to bypass those mainstream products specifically. The "little guys" will often catch a nasty that the big boys won't because of this.

For a commercial AV program -I- suggest the ESET NOD32 available here:
http://www.eset.com/index.php

For a "freebie" AV program I'd suggest Avira AntiVirŪ PersonalEdition Classic available here:
http://www.free-av.com/

Personally I use AVG available here:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#avg-anti-virus-free

I've been using AVG for ages and while it's not rated as well as it -used- to be I still use it because of familiarity and I'm insulated by excellent protection from my ISP, a secure router, and the fact that I'm constantly aware and paying attention to everything that goes in or out of my system. The only reason I haven't migrated over to AntiVir is because I've been lazy. :p
