WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Anxious not to repeat mistakes of past Middle East peace-making, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has turned to former presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter for tips ahead of her own conference this year.

fORMER president Carter has said that he has a deep respect for Ms. Rice. i see this as someone making an educated choice not just to guess what might work best but to talk to people who have been there and have had some level, no matter how small , of success. going beyond the bounds of party and any other ties an administration in charge can hold over a person. it takes guts to say, maybe we are wrong, do you have another idea. ... that's all i have to say about that

You are right, Hoops. It has always been a tremendous mystery to me as to why Secretary Rice, as accomplished as she is, sticks with GWB. I suppose we should be grateful that she did tough
it out to try to balance (albeit unsuccessfully) the influence of Cheney-Rumsfeld and the neocons.
But I fear that the situation in the Middle East is so far gone now due to the influence of the latter, that Rice's best efforts will be analogous to bailing the Titanic with a thimble.

I believe that if you actually click the link and go and actually -read- the article rather than what I clipped from it that's basically what it says. :p
