My sympathies, Andrea.....good thing you have the cat, though. I don't suppose I could borrow him/her for a while?

Join the party My Sistah.. I've not been having much fun at work either the last two weeks. Hell, actually the last three months.

Vent all you want, I'll keep pouring.

I’ve been trying to ward off a deep depression since the middle of last week. My psychotherapist has ordered me off the quit smoking drug Champix. (Bad drug interaction I think.) Bah!

I haven’t felt depressed in many many many years. I nearly forgot how dark and futile my thoughts are capable of becoming.

Hang in there, Dee--that's a reasonably common (unfortunately) side-effect of Champix. It should at least pass fairly quickly.

I need the drug that it's a problem with more than the Champix Dave, so it’s finished. They hadn’t done trials on this combo yet (and likely many others will surface) since Champix (or Chantix in the US) is so new.

Just call me Guinea the Pig. :p

I have a perscription for Chantix, but I am very leery of taking it. I am the sort of person that for god knows what reason, will suffer the side effects that at listed for " fewer than 1%". I am very medicattion sensitive, usually half the regular dose is plenty for me.

The anecdotal reports on Chantix is pretty scary. Quitting smoking is hard enough without further decrement in sleep, changes in other bodily functions, etc.

But then, lung cancer won't be much fun either....

I don't know about Canada, but the U.S. has taken to rushing certain drugs onto the market in a great hurry and without anything near the number of clinical trials which used to be standard. This has been particularly true of several antidepressants and related medications, which I believe includes Chantix. So, while they may help many people, in effect, anyone taking these drugs becomes part of the long-term clinical trials for same.

Amy, the worst that can happen is you'll take the stuff, have a bad experience with it, and stop. Then wait for the almost inevitable class-action lawsuit. If it helps you stop smoking, don't you think it's worth the "risk"?

Amy,

Please don’t let what I wrote put you off trying the Chantix. It’s unlikely you are on the same medication I take that is in question here, and there are other circumstances that contributed to my depression. I shouldn’t have made it sound like it was all the Champix.

I will say that it really did kill the nicotine cravings within days and I did manage not to smoke for eight days in a row. It was in the third and fourth weeks that I began to be depressed and have some rather dark thoughts. You may have greater success than I did. Everyone’s physiology and drug tolerance level is different, and I haven’t heard of any other depression stories from people using Champix or Chantix. I should also say that I experienced none of the other known and listed product side effects.

On my second day after stopping the Champix I am already beginning to feel better, tho angry that I’m smoking again, even if it’s less than before. And I’m not giving up on quitting. My doctor says it will take five days for the Champix to be out of my system. By then I should develop that ability to teletransport that I’ve always wanted.
