As much as I didn't want the strike, and as awkward as it is walking by a line of teachers you know and respect (some of them the kindest people on campus, when it comes to students, feeling sorry for the ones that can't go home for vacations and the like), my time has been fun. And it may all end soon, since negotiations are again going on. Though it may simply aggravate the situation.
You all knew I wouldn't waste my time moping, but I bet you assumed I'd be writing. Nope. There was enough flying around, I didn't need to add my two cents worth in there.
--------------------
Instead I started showing up more frequently at the local shelter. They only have cats, not enough space for dogs, I suppose, but for those of you that know me, you know I love cats an insane amount.
So here I am coming in to play with and hold the cats, since they can only be out when someone is in the room with them, really, and only one cage at a time, since not all of them get along. Now I know them. I love them all so much, but it's also good to have my boundaries set by the fact I'm in a dorm, or I might just melt down and bring one home.
I will post pictures soon. I played with them Monday, played with them and worked on Tuesday (which meant I had to do the quarantine section, too), and played with them again today.
Kitties really need to learn the word stay, quite honestly. It was a "Get back in your box I'm afraid I'm going to step on you!" type day. Three of the kittens in quarantine, no bigger than my hand, would not stay in the cardboard box, even though it was difficult for them to get out, and the room had lots of little spaces, but not much walking space, so that it would be too easy for them to pop out of a hidey hole under my foot. I did finally give up, though, and no ill came of it. Finished cleaning their cage, picked them up, and put them in again.
I'm not supposed to have favorites, but there's this runt, out of quarantine now, named Kolby. He's been held a lot, since they're trying to make him gain weight, and so is extremely laid back and hand tame. Though I'm not sure if laid back is the right word for it when he tries to beat down/climb up the front of his cage if he's awake, someone's there, and he's not in their arms.
Then Katie, Keko, and Kaylo all mew piteously to come out. At one point or another on any given day I've let them all out, but it's crazy, because as soon as they realize you're in the room, they want to be your best friend. I was so happy to see Kaita (Kolby's sister) go home the other day. I hope Kolby will follow soon.
And a Himalayan or Birman (think fluffy siamese) proved me wrong. I usually think of siamese type cats as being more brutal, and so cleaning his/her cage I didn't lift him/her (I really have no idea, he/she is new) down. When he/she got down, I braced myself for lifting him/her back up, but he/she was absolutely fine, and gorgeous to boot.
I'm going on too long... Pictures soon.

As to the broomball... I had never played before. Played Monday night. It was an awesome amount of fun. My knee is killing me, though. I fell down on the ice (several times) as it is a game played on ice in sneakers, and I now have a bruise the size of my fist. War wounds.
So much fun, though. We lost, two to zero, but then we didn't have any subs the first half, and only two subs the second half, until someone got injured. Ouch, he got hit in the eye, and also his nose started bleeding. After that I was a little nervous, because it really brings home how hard that ball is, and how fast it is moving.
--------------------
Yes, I do have my homework almost done now. I finally finished programming. Natural Disasters will be a breeze, especially since I have some people I can ask about that one. So... It's looking like this has all worked out to my benefit, despite my reservations. It would have been better without a strike, but we made the most of it. Including a trip into New Minas to get Halloween costumes.
