Rowy - I have just posted on the concert in a separate thread. We all enjoyed it very much and there was quite a bit of interaction with the audience - some of it a bit rowdy (that rowdy not rowy!) but then it is Dublin and I think Janis is used to us.

just got home from seeing Janis in Vicar St, Dublin.... amazing...
I was first introduced to her music nearly 20 years ago as I was coming out and struggling with all of that...my older sister and her girlfriends introduced me to her music (funny that!) ...
there were far too many candles burning and far too many thoughts in my head about no one understanding how I felt, and a Janis Ian tape playing in the stereo... (far too many things going on between my sister and her girlfriend at the time as well.... not a happy night if I remember correctly)...
The "Between The Lines" tape finished and whilst everyone went to bed I grabbed the tape, shoved it into my walkman, pressed play, and fell asleep listening to the most amazing, honest and forgiving voice singing about love and love lost.... those songs....I can't tell you which was my favourite as the whole album became a soundtrack for my life at the time..."bright lights and promises", "light a light" "lover's lullaby"...
I then went overseas to Japan, and luckily I found many older and newer tapes of hers, and I was able to explore some of Janis's other work...I played them non stop on my new walkman.... majestic, but nothing would ever mean as much as that album....hey, it was first exposure to her, the poet, storyteller, that we know and love...
skip to the current and I am now 35 and I can say she and her music has helped me through some very rough times in my life...coming from australia I have never had the opportunity to see her perfom until tonight and I was overcome with emotion when she sang a few of the old songs that I have been playing to myself (and my friends) over the last 20 years... and god, I was overcome at times with tears but god I laughed at some of her stories...
The fabulous thing I learnt tonight from Janis is her depth.... I had never heard a lot of the songs she played tonight, but myself, and my boyfriend were completely captivated by her voice and her songs... JANIS... YOU ARE AMAZING....
thank you so much for the music which has sustained me over these years and got me through some very emotional times...
I know I wouldn't be here if I hadn't had your songs playing through the stereo/walkman/CD player/iPod....

Hi, Hamish,
Sorry if some of the comments seem to be a bit harsh. I'm sure they are meant in the finest spirit.
I'd like to take this opportunity, as I didn't when you joined, to welcome you to the board, to have fun, to visit often, and to be as tolerant as we all try to be. (Take a deep breath, curl your fingers and say, 'Om'. Go on, we all know it makes sense.)
Regards,
PeteCC

Yes, I forgot to welcome you as well Hamish. Let me take this opportunity to correct that. Your posts are most welcome here.
By the way, there is plenty of leeway given to us by the official admins of the JIMB. Your minor transgression of posting twice might get you two minutes in the penalty box, but that's about as far it goes (based on past experience). :D
We like to think we're a friendly bunch here. :o

And I too overlooked welcoming you Hamish, so welcome! Please accept this complimentary copy of my latest book as my way of apology. We are, after all, RUDIES, not RUDES. Well, most of us. ;)

I loved your post Hamish - don't care if it appeared a few places - there is always the potential for overlap when there are so many threads when Janis is on tour and there is a lot of activity on the Board. As you will find thee is a lot of warmth and tolerance from most people here for genuine fans.
