I listen to "Between the Lines" all the time and I have to say that this is the only album I do that with. I mean I am fans of other singers, but Janis's album is the only one that I know the lyrics to all of the songs on it and can listen to it over and over and never get bored. I think "Between the Lines" is quite possible the best album by any artist of any time. I don't mean to give Janis a swelled head, but it's true. It's a perfect piece of artistry.

ryan,
it is a gorgeous album, it was the first one i ever "owned" and i could listen to it every day. check out Janis' other albums and i know you will be stunningly surprised how she can recreate her genious over and over again in new and fresh inspiring ways. i'm not trying to minimize "Between The Lines" i just think that you will find yourself trying again to choose a favorite and it will become harder and harder to do, but you will find yourself happily unable to choose one forever. enjoy the ride it's exicting, amazing and mind blowing

Ryan, I agree, Between The Lines is absolutely superb, almost faultless.
Have you listened to "Live:Working Without A Net" or "Folk Is The New Black"?
they are excellent too.
You "stole" my words, Noel!

Ryan,
This was also my first album I ever got of Janis'. So it has special meaning to me since this introduced me to her music. This is one of my favorites. I agree, this album is superb!!!! I know I am repeating my self here, but I don't think anyone will mind when it comes to praising Janis and her music...Enjoy.....cg.....:) :) :)

100% agree. Love it to bits. Still worth looking at her other CDs and there's so much to choose from... So take a look at the Discography close your eyes and click!!!!! Absolutely NOTHING will disappoint you. I'm nearly there with my collection (with a little help from Kathleen Brogan  ) and I am certainly NOT disappointed. :)

I own many of her albums. I have her society's child collection, Between the lines, Stars, Breaking silence, Miracle Row, Revenge, Aftertones, Janis Ian, God and the FBI, and her live at the bottom line album. I still have more to get. I'm most looking forward to getting her "Folk is the new Black" album. I listened to pieces of it on amazon.com and it sounds fabulous. I don't usually like to buy things for myself, I buy Janis's albums at christmas time as gifts for friends, I save up all year long. I only got all of these albums at one time a few christmas's ago because I got a bonus check for publishing a few poems and thought I'd treat myself. I first hear Janis's album "Between the Lines" on a record player when I was about 16. I am gay and was having trouble at school with the kids all picking on me and my mom said she got picked on when she was in school and that Janis's album helped her. My mom put the record on and I was instantly smitten with it. It felt like a dear friend who knew exactly what I was going through. Sorry, I'm rambling. I can't wait to save up some money for me and get her new album. Thanks you guys for the hints on what to buy next.

And I wrote back.
Ryan,
I just transferred BTL onto my new MP3 player, and listening to it now it's like hearing it all anew (the remastered version my boyfriend ordered for me during the annual Holiday Sale). Truly this album is a timeless classic.

How true, Dee...
I thought "Stars" was magnificent, but the first time I heart "BTL" I was hooked.

And how about Claire Bay's harmonizing on "Light A Light", "When The Party's Over" and "Lover's Lullaby"...

Don't forget to get "Night Rains" and "Restless Eyes". Then you will have Janis' entire output for Columbia records. And you can get those albums at The Great Escape on Broadway in Nashvile...probably nearby to where you live.

That is exactly what I was thinking. I'd rather give my money to Janis and her foundation, then to some other company. I like Janis too much to do that to her. Thanks. I'll wait till the christmas sale and buy as much as I can. I just love the holidays. Yippee!!

Claire and Janis had the best marriage of complimentary voices didn't they, Jim.
Ryan, you won't be disappointed by waiting for the annual holiday sale, tho you might be pleasantly surprised by the amazing prices!

This is the album that I play all of the time in my office and in my home. Well, maybe not all the time, but when I want to quench my thirst for music I play this album. I can relate personally, and spiritually with this album. As a teen I could picture myself as a concert, and if I had been smoking something (hmmm :D ) I could picture myself on stage doing backup and harmonizing!
