I forgot to mention that after Janis played "Society's Child" at the Bluebird Cafe on the evening on July 28th, Gretchen Peters commented that "Society's Child" was the perfect song. She metioned how she learned to play that song on the guitar when she was seven years old and attending a camp for gifted children (which in Gretchen's words were...no athletics took place there). Gretchen also said that MAYBE there were five perfect songs out there...she listed "Famous Blue Raincoat" by Leonard Cohen, "A Case Of You" by Joni Mitchell and "Society's Child" by Janis Ian.

I have to agree with her on that one. Society's Child is a perfect song. At any given time it's one of my favorites. Usually at the top. I can't quite explain it, but it's there.
And in the way of composition... Flawless. Very simple words, simply said and easy to understand, but carrying a deep meaning and powerful message.

Nice meeting you as well, Mike. It was great watching you give Janis a standing ovation after she sang "The Last Train".
