I just want to thank Janis for never backing down when it came to her music. She just speaks the truth in her music and I think that's why I became such a fan of hers. "Between the Lines" is the best album of all time by anyone, my opinion, for me. I hope I'm not alone in feeling this way. Janis's songs and albums have helped me get through some tough times and now I'm doing great and I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank Janis for writing such great music that speaks to so many of us that don't have a voice. You are a legend in every sense of the word and I am honored to call my self a Janis Ian fan.

Welcome Ryan! We are a friendly though biased group when it comes to Janis and her music.
I see that you are in Nashville. I am in Chattanooga. Were you at the Bluebird Cafe show on July 28th?

No, I wasn't at the bluebird cafe. I went to buy tickets and they had sold out. I've been trying for three years to catch Janis in concert, but I fear I may never get the pleasure of seeing her in concert. I just love her music, it speaks to the heart.

Ryan, Ryan, Ryan...
Part of the official Rudie creed is to be quick when tickets go on sale... Once you see Janis it won't be the last time... Check the tour pages here on the website now and call the Bluebird to find out what minute of what day tickets go on sale and be there....
Best to you and yours new Rudie

Janis will be back a the Bluebird Cafe on Saturday, August 25th. Tickets will go on sale online Monday morning, August 20th at 8AM. Go to www.bluecafe.com and create an account. That way you can get in right away that morning. For July's show, the place was sold out within a half an hour. They will also go on sale by phone at 12 noon on the 20th also, but I'm sure they will be sold out by then.
Good luck!

Ryan your looking a bit flush, Could be a severe case of Rudism of the ear which can only be cured by the purchase of tickets... For the sake of your health you best call in late for work...
Trust us here, the hour or so that you lose from one pay check won't mean much compared to the life experience you gain at the show... Janis is far more then JUST a singer... As us... we know something... On this board are many that have traveled nationally and even Internationally to see her and its more then just about the voice...
Best to you and yours

Ryan,
Randy and Betty are right. Either go to work late that day or take a sick day. The experience you see at the show will be worth it. Keep in mind, that at that particular show, Janis will be in the round with Craig Carothers and Tony Arata -- two great musicians and songwriters and entertainers. Janis will probably play only seven or eight songs but what you get from her in addition to the other two guys is well worth it. Live for the moment, man! If Gretchen Peters was going to be there as well, I'd quit my job altogether to see those four perform again!

Ryan, you have the opportunity to get to a wonderful concert (I haven't) so I may just sound like an echo, but the answer's obvious......TAKE A "SICKIE"..... :D and reap the rewards as the memory will stay with you for a lifetime (promise) If you lose your job, well don't blame me  but you can get another one :)

I'm going to try to get the tickets. I think that is the week I might be on vacation. I so want to see Janis in concert. It'd be like a dream. Where is the Bluebird Cafe again. I don't usually go downtown a lot, too much traffic and people. :)

Ryan,
The Bluebird Cafe is located at...
4104 Hillsboro Road near the Green Hills Mall.

If you really want to see Janis and friends on August 25th, get your reservations online at 8AM the morning of the 20th. Like I said, this is a popular show and will sell out quickly. Go to www.bluebirdcafe.com and create an account. That way you can skip all the red tape the morning of the 20th, log on and go right to the reservations section.
Call the Bluebird for information beforehand. They are very helpful.
Good luck, Jim

LOL Ryan, your treading on thin ice here...Your surrounded by people that would and have traveled thousands of miles to see Janis and have NO REGRETS... Quit your whinning about work, traffic and people and go, Its your life make it happen... Don't give yourself a reason to regret something you missed... LOL my friend... otherwise the Pirates might get you... Seriously there are many reasons that we are all friends of Janis... Notice I said friends, not fans (though in all honesty I think we are both).... Listening to her wonderful music is just a part of the woman... equally important to Betty and I and I'm sure many others are the things that she stands for... She stands for good things... it's all around you if you take a look and to hear her discuss those things live suddenly you realize that your not just at another concert.... Despite how good it is... Your gonna learn things about Janis, Life and Ryan you will even learn things about yourself... I promise you that if you go and do not become overwhelmed by emotion, laugh, smile and cry (all of those things) I will personally send you the ticket cost... Besides music, Janis tells stories of life that will touch your soul and shed new light on old ideas...Besides what other artist ALMOST always takes the time to stand around before a concert with us, knows us by name and even makes me grimmace with sheer delight with a hug (which for rudies is quite common)...
Read about the Pearl Foundation... Read about Janismania... Ask anyone about the Holiday sale...What other artist will sit down after a show and sign autographs, photographs, hellos and handshakes for every person after a show thats willing to stand in line...What other artist is so well ground that they actually post on their web site? Ryan years went by and you know I was always able to think of reasons not to do things when in reality it was only causing me to let life pass me by.... Betty and I will never miss a Janis concert thats within a reasonable distance which in the past has ranged from 2 miles to 1426 miles away...and if we do there is generally a good reason. I bet by now your sorry you posted your sincere note to Janis... well don't be... Thats about how we all started out... Ryan welcome to our Klump of Rudies...
Best to you and yours...

Amen, Randy!
It is more than the show. It's the experience involved. The hugh I et from Janis before the show is worth the price of admission. It's more than the music. It's the woman behind it all. And Ryan, you live in Nashville! How more convenient can that be? Many of us have traveled more and through time zones to see Janis perform. Get your ticket, man...bring your "Between The Lines" album and a Sharpie...and camera too!

I know, I'm a really shy person and just don't want to feel out of place, but I will do everything I can to go. I'm going to sign up for the bluebird cafe website and try hard to get my ticket. Maybe I can bring a friend with me too and create a new fan.

Do that, Ry. I've gone to Janis' shows alone and ended up making friends. That happened on July 28th. Ended up sitting with a nice lady and we chatted. After all, you have one very important thing in common when you attend. I have brought friends to her shows too to introduce them or reacquaint them to her music. One time I ended up at the same table with Charlene, a long time fan and usual poster on this board. I never knew it was her until we started talking at the show.
Good luck...send me an e-mail...
Jim
