Great as usual.....glad you and your friends had a wonderful time together...any chance of seeing that 8 lb. carp?? :)
Concerning the carp question I suppose it made the carp quite unlucky (... till it was eaten) and Janis lucky and proud (till now).
Good to hear you had such a good time, Janis! Now back to work - I did so as well today ;)

Ooh... catfish... Not my favorite catch of the day. Dangerous little buggers with barbs. We used to go night fishing until we learned that, off the dock, all we caught at night were catfish, and plenty of them.
Playing with photoshop to make it look forty-two pounds... Now that's my idea of fun.
Not hooking anyone is good... I can't say much. The last time I ever went fishing was the time I got hooked. Not badly, but my cousin didn't realize it was hooked on me and yanked it, and the bloody streak it left on my hand after having been in fish and worms grossed me out a bit, so that was the end of that.
Lovely update. Great to hear what you're up to, Janis. I think I'll stay safely in New Hampshire.
I do love updates, though.
And I'm glad Ineke and everyone had a fun stay in America.
I've been noticing, too, the surprise with which foreigners greet the variety we have, just in our Deli, where some Americans complain we don't have a few of the major brands or whatnot... We have a few exchange students or foreign students (I think) that are staying for the summer and come up and ask for something and are surprised by the amount of questions we needed to ask them to get it narrowed down to one thing. (Honey ham. Glenrock or Sara Lee?)

I'm still working out the concept of June 31st!!!!! :D Great update, Janis and glad you had such a wonderful July. Here there was WAY TOO MUCH WATER for anyone's liking but things seem to be drying up abit now :) and although we didn't ACTUALLY DROWN there were time when I thought we were likely to.
I'm surprised no one caught that catfish along Tewkesbury High Street!!!

Ah, I can breathe again. The update wasn't here yesterday morning when I went looking for it. Glad Janis has had time to relax and enjoy life with good friends and Pat, of course. I guess she counts too! ;)
We have a calendar hanging in our hallway that didn't include July 31st on it. I think they were just trying to see if anyone would notice.

Sounds wonderful and restful! And, from the pictures, I realized that one of my dreams since high school has finally come true! I finally have Janis' hair (exaclty the same cut and color)! I used to wish it was black, but oh well! :)

june 31st...hmmm maybe this is a leap year and Janis decided a nice summer day would be better than a cold winter one. shoot, the calander is just one person's guess anyway. all kidding aside, thank you for the update Janis. sounds like some southern hospitality was all over waiting for you and your far away friends. isn't that great!

What a nice way to take some time off from writing, Janis. So good to see you looking so happy and healthy.
And did we actually see Pat's face on the Internet? I am shocked! http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k267/deemark/Emoticons/laughing.jpg
That sounds like everone was having a good time. Lovely!
So what did they cook for you? Was it stamppot? And which one? It would be a bit strange since that is very much winterfood. Then again... it's so good that I make it all year around :D

I don't know what exactly Jenever is, but if it's vanilla flavor I want some!
That book sounds really interesting Janis. I'm starting to read a little more historical fiction, mostly English history, but definitely fiction without spaceships, aliens, wizards, dragons or elves. Of course I still read the latter, but I'm branching out....aren't you proud?
Tokyo Sauna.....VERY interesting name for a band.....is it all women? ;)
Love to hear more of THAT particular story. :D
Everything is bigger & better. Even June!!

I believe Jenever is an especially potent liquid resembling gin. KLM Airlines used to serve it in little bottles made in the shape of actual row houses in Amsterdam. I once had hopes of starting a collection, but as there are something like 60 bottles in the set and I have managed to find exactly two, I set that hope aside.
Now, Kathleen, you should be proud of yourself. You are now the definitive collector of all things Janis, including her hair. Still want to hear you two duet on "Belle Of The Blues".

Awwww... It tells me under 'terms and conditions' (or even before, on the first page you get to by clicking) that I'm not allowed to enter the Jenever website because I'm not legal. Tempting to do so anyway.

Can only assume that Janis has not been in a large French Supermarket. It would blow her little socks off!

I think the volume of everything in the USA is always a bit of a culture shock. I made the mistake of ordering a large coke the first time I bought one in NY; it was so big I couldn't hold it comfortably in one hand; couldn't cope with my luggage and the coke and ended up having to dump it! On my Mom's first trip to the USA she had great difficulty trying to get her head around the sheer volume of everything including traffic - she looked at the traffic one day on I-95 and said with complete incredulity "Where are they all going...........they can't all be going home for their tea!"
